I’m looking at purchasing a Sea Ray 370 Sedan Bridge this week with an issue with the generator. Basically, oil in the water. I’m surprised by the lack of published information on shops that rebuild Westerbeke engine etc. It may not need an overhaul, I get it, but I need to plan on worst case. Seems to be a tight lid on internet sites with information on shops that overhaul the engines etc. Can someone help me understand how the overhaul market works on Westerbeke?

Thank you- CB

I believe you can get the list of regional repair shops directly from Westerbeke's website. That's how I found my local guy...

Eagleflyer, where are you located or where is the boat, someone here can refer you to a shop that does this. Westerbeke is a pain in the ass and doesn't want you to repair anything without going through them. Give us a little more info and we should be able to help.

Thanks for the assistance ....boat is in Long Beach CA. A further search revealed shops in California that repair engines. At this point I need an estimate to rebuild the engine (haven’t closed on the purchase) if the source of the water/oil migration can’t be located or there is collateral damage. Thanks for the offer to help!

I haven't looked at their website but I believe there's one in Portland, OR and also Seattle.

I replaced my 15KW Westerbeke a year ago. When I discussed the rebuild price vs the replacement I opted to replace rather than have a rebuilt motor and original generator end.

Oil in the coolant may not lead to an overhaul. If it has an oil cooler that uses coolant, I’d pull that and have it tested. If it has an oil pressure feed passage through the head gasket, I’d be pulling the head and having a peek at that. Get the head pressure tested while it’s removed.
