Hello All

Tried using the search engine for this but no luck. I’m replacing both 7.4 L (310 HP?) gas engines on my 1996 370 SB. PO took the boat from lake to ocean years ago without heat exchangers so my cores are trash. Verified it. I’ll do a lot of the work myself but need long blocks plus a few other new parts. Preferences given to southern California engine builders but good work, communication and warranty are important but at a fair price. Hope that’s still available. If you have first hand experience with a good shop, I welcome your referral. Advice, do’s/don’t welcomed. One of my engines below....Vanilla shake for oil.

Thank you!

You posted a good part of your camera roll in the thumbnail at the bottom of the screenshot.

Worry about the long game with your repower, not the best price. Just friendly advice.

Do you plan on upping the game to 8.1s with FWC? 310hp is pretty much underpowered for a 370SB. 8.1s may also be easier to find. Sometimes ebay has some. FB and CL are a crap shoot. Depends on how much effort you want put into it and your budget.

You should definitely consider long blocks as your cylinder heads will need to done anyhow since you don't want to put old tired heads on fresh blocks.

A lot guys on here have had good luck with https://www.michiganmotorz.com/ and they will also most likely have the other parts you need to complete the job.
Can't hurt to give them a call, I've heard they have great customer service.

I may end up with them. I’m hearing this too.

I had Jasper long blocks (same make model as yours) in the 330DA I purchased years ago with 1 hour on them. PO installed them for the sale. I was happy with them, but if it were my boat I would have gone with fuel injected and done some more part replacements while they were out. I thought I had "new engines" but later learned, not so much...

Get rid of that shitty mechanical raw water/fuel pump configuration, go with a higher quality/stainless raw water pump for example.

Agree with increasing the HP as well.

The S/S water pump is made by Hardin Marine. Just an FYI.

One of the best mods one can do.
