Yes I’m talking about the garboard drain
Tks for the tips, dock is 2h away so knowing the dims in advance would save me a trip.
I was afraid about having to mess with a bonding wire …meaning bolts with a backing plate with nuts on the inside (where the wire is secured at?)…in a single engine...
The description in the parts manual of my 2004 SeaRay 260 for the drain flange is :
FLANGE, RED BRASS DRAIN PLUG 1.25"
The 1.25” number seems odd as all flanges available seem to be for a 1” hole…
Appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this
I have a very small leak of seawater in the...
Ok, update for whoever has a similar problem: this is not documented anywhere and just worked for me so do it at your own risk: if you ever disassemble the throttle control in a Bravo III Merc, to say, change the trim switch, you will likely lose the neutral position and won’t be able to turn...
Tks for the instruction manual, I didn’t have it. Unfortunately it does not tell you how to mechanically align the gears in neutral. Since the safety switch will not let me start it unless in neutral, I will just go trial and error in the full range until I find it…
I removed the shifter handle on my 2004 260 Searay to change the trim switch (having intermittent issues that were ultimately not due to the switch) and now I’m having issues with the engine not starting… I believe because I’m unable to re-assemble properly and handle is not in the correct...
Well, if anyone is interested I got help from Mente, confirmed trim tabs in pic are Bennet. Just installed their ATC, very easy to install and waiting for good weather to test it out.
Does anyone know what brand of trim tabs Searay used on the 04' 260DAs?.....boat is away at the dock and can't check until I come back.
I'm looking into adding an auto trim controller....the "Mente Marine" is compatible with hydraulic systems like the one in the '04 and mention some brands...
For the record, changing the windlass motor fixed the problem. The failed seal in the gearbox may have contributed to the issue. Really tricky to troubleshoot as the motor without load worked fine both ways, only shorted when forced to work on high amperage.
Installed the “rebuilt” gearbox...now going down is fine (25A)...but still trips the 60A breaker under load. Amp meter reports a short.
Same when connected directly w/o the solenoid ....
Electric motor??
Around 19 A w/o load. With load (me grasping the gypsy) went to about 25 Amps.
New seal fixed the oil leak....
Need to test in boat....if it keeps blowing the fuse then issue is a short somewhere else.
Cleaned and refilled with new gear oil and confirmed the seal in the shaft connecting the gearbox to the motor is leaking badly... that's where all the oil went.
Imtra, p2 marine, etc do not sell a seal kit for this windlass but figured out the dimensions and ordered a replacement...
It blows the 60amp breaker after a couple feet of chain movement (up or down, with or without the weight of the anchor ). The gearbox is the last thing I have left to check, I think I have discarded everything else other than replacing the electrical cables that look fine to me.
Managed to...
Didn’t get a reply but thought I share what I found out. Lofran’s US did kindly get back to me, in a nutshell these are sealed windlasses and have to be disassembled if we need to check for oil. Recommend replacing the seals.
I did manage on my 3rd attempt to get the whole thing out. What I...
Looking for instructions, if any, about how to check/refill the oil for an older Lofrans Marlin windlass....2004 Searay 260
Do I need to take it off the boat and disassemble it or is there a way to refill in place?
Tried to remove the gearbox but I could not get it to drop from the deck after...
