1987 Cuddy Cruiser Alternator Issue - Thoughts?

If the starter has enough power to turn over the motor without bogging down it's probably something else like spark. If you have dual batteries try starting in ALL. That will give you the most power to the starter.

1987 Cuddy Cruiser Alternator Issue - Thoughts?

I had a crazy problem as well with my 260. I thought it was fuel related as I'd stall out after 15-20 minutes and would not be able to restart again. It turned out to be a bad exhaust elbow which was over-heating my thunderbolt ignition. I had both replaced and all seems well again.

    Seat Bushings

.bump. Anyone have an idea where to get replacement bushings? I don't see any for sale that have those notches cut out. Is there a universal size that may fit?

Adding new circuits on an old boat

Do I branch off from the main feed coming into the helm or connect directly to the battery switch? What connects directly to the main battery feed on an 86 Sea Ray? Is there a bus bar? Does it feed directly into the dash? Or a relay? And is the factory wiring heavy enough to support an 8...

Adding new circuits on an old boat

Hi all, I've got an '86 cuddy and need to power some new electronics. I've added a new VHF, a Simrad GO9, a Wetsounds Stealth sound bar, and a rechargeable hand-held VHF. Oddly enough my old VHF was spliced into my trim tab power. That doesn't seem horrible at first, but when I hit my tabs...

Replacing 3-terminal toggle switches with 4-terminal?

Interesting. I double checked and it looks like the switch lights with the dash lights and in the on position. I didn't expect that, and only need illumination in the on position. Should I be able to connect only the ground for light without the panel illumination terminal to get the tip to...

Leak when Alpha One fully trimmed in trailer position?

I noticed roughly a 2' x 2' slick on both sides of the transom when using the trailer button. No idea if it's gas, oil, or hydraulic... I don't see anything much inside the bilge.. Boat will be pulled next week for winter -- just wondering what to look out for....

Replacing 3-terminal toggle switches with 4-terminal?

Hi all, My mid 80's Sea Ray is wired with three-terminal two-position lighted-tip toggle switches. I'm assuming: positive battery, circuit, and ground? The last terminal has two black wires that chain from circuit to circuit.. The new switches I found have four terminals: positive, circuit...

Leak when Alpha One fully trimmed in trailer position?

Hi Guys, I snagged a crab pot which wrapped around my prop. I was able to get it off, but noticed a slick in the water after fully trimming my Alpha One using the trailer button. I have no idea what it was, but something leaked both times I used to trailer button. It didn't seem to happen...

    Need to replace dash switches

I replaced a few of the bad switches with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A8CBUO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the nav/anchor switch with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AXVHO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Switches work fine, but they won't light...

Water in back of bilge not draining

bump. Anyone else dealt with this before? I can't figure out why there would be a channel for water to pool with no way out.... Or is there a hard to see drain somewhere that's clogged? Hard to tell from that picture but there could be 0.5" - 1" of water back there inside the vent tube..

Water in back of bilge not draining

I've got a little water sitting in the rear starboard part of my bilge, behind of the battery near the transom wall. I see a few things back there - raw water wash down seacock, bilge vent hose, gas fill is on that side, trim tab, etc.. It's not much water, maybe 0.5", but it doesn't make its...

what to buy for basic electroincs?

Rats... I've also thought about forward scan -- with a 3' - 5' bay and 32" draft it might make sense.. After all, with a transom mount that 3' reading is already under your stern... Did your buddy end up with an NSS evo2 with a thru-hull forward scan, and a down/side scan on the transom...

what to buy for basic electroincs?

I'm seriously considering a Simrad GO7. http://www.simrad-yachting.com/en-US/Products/GO-series/Simrad-GO7-XSE-with-Insight-Maps-and-TotalScan-en-us.aspx Right now they seem to be one of the best values out there... They are not upgradable for multiple transducers or radar, but for the...
