My manual says Merc used a 1.5:1 til the 260 5.7l. I may want to rethink putting a 383 in front of the Alpha. I can just imagine fixing her boat after I broke it, and then fragging the drive. Good replies and advise. I definitely have some question to ask my mechanic.

He talked about the rigging and was concerned that I may over power an Alpha I.

My mechanic is trying to talk me out of it, but I think all bolt-ons should work fine. If I upgrade the intake and carb, that may add some work, but I think everything from the 305 should bolt up to a 383.. Am I missing something here? I think I can stay within the capabilities of a fresh...

I still wonder how it was trailered out since it sounds like it was being supported by a couple of barges. I guess the supports could have been to bow and transom eyes allowing the barges to lift it on to a trailer.

I was wondering about the same thing. The Fire Department was called and showed up with a fleet of trucks, Two barges with cranes were needed to lift the boat. I have no idea how the boat was removed from the lake or where it was taken. The HAZMAT team had three pick-ups with big fifth-wheel...

That sounds like an extreme solution. Our 200 has a bit of slop, but I don't remember the solution being that dramatic or expensive.

Any boat would have fulfilled this destiny. I'm told that it was rarely used over the years. Floating storage? The owner didn't (couldn't/wouldn't) show up for the recovery, removal, and cleanup.

I stopped by there today during my travels. The cleanup was just wrapping up this afternoon. It sounds like it went down quickly since a "dock walk" had been completed shortly before. Just based on the number of HAZMAT vehicles there, that is going to be a serious cleanup bill.

We have towing through Boat U.S. and I will probably renew. I did see someone make a case for putting that same money away and self insure, but I like the peace of mind. More importantly, the Admiral likes the peace of mind.
