Adjusting Shift Cables on Mercruiser 170

Is there a step by step instructional sheet available to adjust the shift cables on a Mercruiser 170? They must have gotten out of alignment because I am really having a rought time getting it into neutural. I have lubed all the pivot points and the cables seem to glide smooth enough.

Hard shifting on 85 Seville Cuddy w/170 Merc

Morse is the name on the shifter. I has buttons on the handle for the trim to lower and raise the engine. It is what came on the boat when I bought it new in 1985. This problem has been going on for years(only use the boat about 3 times a year)but is now getting really bad. I will check the...

Hard shifting on 85 Seville Cuddy w/170 Merc

I have to really jiggle the shifter to get it into neutural. I feels like something is hanging up and not gliding smooth when moving from forward to neutural and reverse. It is a Morse shifter and a 170 Merc engine. Any advice on what I can do to make this problem go away. I have driven other...

Mercruiser 470 Exhaust relief vents, what is normal?

While running with muffs and lower unit in down position I noticed hot water and hot exhaust blowing out of the starboard vent and only slightly warm exhaust (no water) coming out of the port side vent. Is this normal? There is some exhaust coming out of the prop but no water. Engine was at 1200...

Merc 170 very, very hot to the touch but temp guage normal

Just tuned up my 1985 Sea Ray Seville Cuddy with the Merc 170. Went out to the lake and while it was running rough at first, we did get it to smooth out somewhat and ran it at 25 to 30 mph for about 20 minutes. The engine rocker arm cover was so hot that I could only touch it for a split second...

    Old Gas Removal

I had to drain 25 gallons of bad gas out of my 85 Seville. Ran a siphon hose down the tank and drained into five gallon can. I ran an ad on Craigslist for free gasolene and within twenty minutes a guy came by and put all 25 gallons in his older truck. I than put about 2 gallons of fresh fuel in...

Small spark when attaching battery cables on 85 sea ray sevelle w/170 merc.

:huh:I just happened to notice when installing a new battery that there is a small spark that happens when I just touch the negative cable to the battery post. It is almost like something is on, such as the radio, or the running lights. Everything is off. Is this normal? I am concerned that this...

Not getting fire to plugs on Mercruiser 170

Need to drain bad gas from 85 Seville Cuddy

Thanks for the info. I guess leaving my siphon hose in the hot sun for several hours made is soft enough to get through the filler hose. All of a sudden it went all the way into the tank. I was able to siphon it all out without any problems.
