I have heard different things from different people about which engine had soft blocks. A diesel mechanic that seemed to have a lot of experience said that the 3116 was a cast block and that the 3126 had sleeves. This would mean that the 3116 had the soft block problem. any different answers
I am looking at an 1996 Sundancer 45 with Cat 3208TA engines with 750 hours. I am also looking at a 1998 Sundancer 40 with Cat 3116 engines with 1250 hrs. What is the difference between the two beside obvious hp. and whick is the better longer lasting engine or are they simular.

I think that your engines are set at too high RPM to do that. Look on the data plate and see what the idle RPM is and check to see if it does not read higher than that on your tachometer. Check each engine one at the time. I think they idle around 700 rpm but im not sure.
