    Paint VHF antenna

My antenna is looking a little worn and discolored these days. My father said that he has sanded and painted (with marine paint) the antenna and it's come out looking nice. Has anyone else tried painting their long VHF antennas? If so, what sand paper grit did you use and paint?

Volt meter shows 10-11 volts when running full throttle...odd, right?

How do you go about testing the voltage regulator to see if that's the cause? (and which one is it?)

Volt meter shows 10-11 volts when running full throttle...odd, right?

I've been having this issue ever since buying the boat 2 months ago... boat is plugged into shore power when it's not in use, but when I turn on the motor the volt meter reads 11-11.5 volts and stays like that until I get up to full throttle where it then jumps up to 12.5 volts... but nothing in...

Leaky hard-to-soft-line fitting under sink - where do I find this part?

Brilliant - sometimes the obvious solution is the right one. I tightened the fittings and the rubber piece on the hard metal line was compressed further and the leaking is gone! Thank you

Tips for boiling crab on the boat BBQ?

I guess on this Dickinson BBQ I could use some metal wire and tie the boiling pot's handle to the BBQ handle... or I suppose I can tie the pot with wire to the grill itself. Hmm.....

Tips for boiling crab on the boat BBQ?

I know this is a bit of a random question, but has anyone attempted boiling a pot of crabs on a boat BBQ? I'm considering getting the circular type BBQ with roll-back lid so a circular pot can be placed on it for boiling water, but how do you secure the pot to the grill so that it doesn't...

Leaky hard-to-soft-line fitting under sink - where do I find this part?

I was organizing the space under the sink and I noticed the carpet was really wet... I immediately recalled that I tested that the water pressure worked a few days ago...sure enough, I turned on the water pressure button again on the boat and little droplets started to form on the rubber part...

    Dickinson Sea-B-Que vs. Magma

I searched the forum here and couldn't find many opinions on the Dickinson (Canadian) barbeque's. Has anyone tried one? How do you like it compared to the monopoly brand - Magma? From looking at it in the showroom... Pro's: - Handles on both sides of BBQ for easier pick-up to store in engine...

    Garmin fuel flow sensors

I just checked my fuel lines, they have 3/8" stamped on them... not sure why another 7.4L would have larger lines. There is an outer covering on the fuel lines, pull it back and see what is stamped on the hose right as it connects to the carb. Woohoo! Going to go buy the GFS 10 on Amazon now...

Removal of Port Lounge Seat Custions 1996 Sundancer

Great pictures, thank you. I ended up doing the same thing. I muscled the seat off and it left 5 screws exposed. My headliner was very snug and my upholsterer recommended not touching it, so I wound up getting out the dremmel and lopping off the top inch of the screw. There is a lot of room...

    7.4L 454 Engine Start-up... Is this Normal?

The boat is in a fresh water moorage; I wasn't running it out of the water. I checked the gauges before we launched, the temp was at normal operating conditions (warmed up for a solid 5-8 min before shoving off). I tried starting the motor a few times in neutral (no gas), then a couple times...

    7.4L 454 Engine Start-up... Is this Normal?

Damn. I loaded up the boat with a bunch of buddies and turned over the motor. It took two tries and it was running well. Warmed up for 5 minutes and then launched her. After about 50 feet of back and forth gears (very tight space) the engine died. I tried for 10 minutes and couldn't get her...

    Garmin fuel flow sensors

I would like to install the Garmin GFS-10 flow sensor in my Merceuiser 7.4L engine. The GFS-10 is a 3/8" barbed device but my fuel lines are 1/2". Anyone got any ideas about how to accomplish this or has anyone done it? Will restricting the fuel line to 3/8" cause problems? I just can't...

BBQ recommendations and mount suggestions on a '96 270 Sundancer

I do have an extended swim platform in the back. I love the idea of putting a pedestal in the lift-up lid area where the swim ladder is hidden. Brilliant! Thanks guys!

    7.4L 454 Engine Start-up... Is this Normal?

Wow - problem solved. The prior mechanic decided it was a good idea to zip-tie the choke chimney. Zip tie was removed and it starts up great on the first try now. Never ever go to "WP Marine" in Ballard if you live in Seattle. Just my $0.02. Everything they touched they managed to screw up: -...

    7.4L 454 Engine Start-up... Is this Normal?

I should have mentioned that I have a Mercruiser 7.4L matched to a Bravo 3. Not sure if this matters.

    7.4L 454 Engine Start-up... Is this Normal?

This is great feedback everyone, thank you. Regarding the slow 5 mph "hesitations" I mentioned below, do you think that's also related to the carb needing a clean/rebuild? The gas is 6 months old in the tank, but it just seems odd that gas can go bad that quick. 1 or 2 years, definitely, but 6...

    7.4L 454 Engine Start-up... Is this Normal?

I purchased a '96 270 Sundancer a few weeks ago and it has a 7.4L motor in it with low hours (about 300 original hours). I'm curious to hear your feedback on these two questions: (a) What is the "proper" start-up procedure for a big ol' carbureted V8 with electronic ignition? (b) How long...

BBQ recommendations and mount suggestions on a '96 270 Sundancer

There have been a couple recent theft incidents at our marina, I'm debating (a) which gas BBQ option is the best bang for our buck, (b) where should I mount it? Ideas I'm debating: - BBQ: the square kind seem a bit more ideal than the circular kind. Any other opinions on usability? Brand...

Removal of Port Lounge Seat Custions 1996 Sundancer

Any updated pictures and advice on how to remove the lounge (chase) bottom seat cushion? I'm having the same problem... the lounge seems bolted down, but I can't find a way to access the bottom of the seat through the lower birth to access the bolts.
