SS prop pitch for a 185

I have a 2005 190hp that came with a 19p 3 blade, then this was upgraded to a 19p 4 blade which was a good improvement, recently I went to High five 19p with a further improvement. I use this at about 3000ft ASL for skiing, wakeboarding and tubing. Seems to be a better all round prop for me.

    2008 175 4cyl or 2003 185 V6?

If you get the chance go the v6. Yes it will use more fuel but it will go harder. You will find that you are working the 4 cyl pretty hard and the fun factor will fade pretty fast. That said the 4 is cheaper as people try to get out of them to go the bigger motor - surely that says something...

    A 16-year old's introduction to income tax

The problem with this concept is that governments like the idea of the consumption tax but the just want to add it to what they already take out of your pocket. (and yes Australia does have a consumption tax that goes by the name of Goods and Service Tax - GST) I just hope that I can get my...

    Any advice?

Even with a new trailer - check the bearings. Once you have travelled a while the bearings can loosen a bit and need a bit more grease. If they were a bit loose to start with they may need adjustment when you get home. My introduction to towing my Sea Ray was a bit of fun. It was purchased out...

Tsunami warning after 7.1 magnitude Japan quake

Another interesting fact on Japan - Street number do not work as westerners know them. Properties used to be numbered by when they were built. That is if you built the 1st house on the street you were #1 and so on. During the post WWII occupation it was decided to to westernise the numbering and...

    Pulling skiers

I use my 185 with the 4.3 to pull skiers no problem. Do yourself a favour and use the strong Aud to order in a prop from the US. I have a 19 in 4 blade and it is great and you still get a decent top end. I get low 40's (mph) but lose a bit because of altitude on home water. If you wallet runs to...

    2010 - 2011 Snow thread. Pictures Please.

If it make you feel any better we had about 10 inches of snow on the 20th (about 20 miles from home and the lake and 2000 ft higher) . And this is mid summer for us down under! Mind you we were out water skiing again on the 23rd. and tomorrow is forecast to be about 90 degrees.

    2005 185 4.3 dieseling

My 2005 came with 29 1/2 hours so hadn't done much either. From my experience fuel freshness and hence octane rating seems to have a lot to do with the running on. I have also been told that the higher the octane the quicker it goes "off" especially if cut with ethanol. Get the fuel level...

    Thinking about a 185 for 1st boat

185 is a good size - plenty of room for a couple of adults and kids. Not to hard to tow or to fit in the garage / driveway. Tows skier, wakeboards and tubes well. Definitely go the V6 - do the figures but the fuel savings of the 4 cyl do not really add up. Is 10 or 20 bucks a day difference...

Why did you buy a Sea Ray and what other boats did you consider?

you can always get a bigger garage ..... I had no particular allegience to any brand when I bought my SR but it is a good honest boat. My neighbour has a crownline 180 and some fittings are better and then some features on mine are better. Work out what is really important for you and...

    Winter Down Under

It's only 2 hours down to the coast from here (Merimbula) but over winter I work a 6 day week. So no time to get the boat out. Fortunately my job description states that I have be get out to ski and my company transport is either a 4wd or snowmobile. We are close to the lake so at is only 10...

    Winter Down Under

I am getting depressed already reading about all you Northern Hemisphere guys getting your boats out of storage and hitting the water. I just spent today packing mine away and cramming it into the garage for winter. We only got the boat at the end of February so summer has been way too short...

Is CSR Burgee available to New Zealand SR Owners

Same goes for Australia and NZ, whilst we owe much of our history to England we are all well aware that the British government was doing it for their own good. Pretty similar in fact to the early days and colonisation of the US And for the record my ancestry is English with a bit of Irish...

    motor running on tooo long?

Have to say that I agree with the idea that there are deposits in the combustion chamber contributing to this issue. How many hours on your boat? and do you know its history? (how, where it was used etc). Have you tried some upper cylinder cleaner? I would like to keep using the boat over...

    Lake Mead Boaters??

I can relate to the sand in the boat comment. My boat came from LV and still has the Lake Mead stickers on the hull. It even came into Australia with sand still in the carpet and the ski locker. Unfortunately the lake where I use the boat has similar sand, and with 7 and 10 year old kids the...

Will it fit in a 1-car garage? 07/185 Sport

Just measured my 2005 185 Sport in the garage. With the drive fully up and the trailer NOT folded it needs 23 1/2 feet. With the tower lowered it needs 6 1/2 feet. You can save a bit by lowering the drive and folding so say 21 ft? Cheers
