460 DA Owners Thread

The zinc on the transom is a Divers Dream that has slots for the mounting studs / nuts.

I fit one that weighs about 5 kilos

On the trim tabs the anodes are a simple round type about 3 inches in diameter.

Does your boat have a lift? If so that will need anodes, mine are rounds ones about 2 inches in diameter.

The bow thruster also has an anode, small stubby type that is 1 inch long and with a small bolt going through it.

Thanks to you both- very helpful.

Yes I believe my boat has the plate at the transom and a round on each tab. No lift. Hadn't thought about the bowthruster- thank you!

I do have the parts manual but I wasn't sure how to translate that info into something that I can procure- e.g., 398222 ZINC, TRANSOM ZINC LARGE. A quick Google search didn't turn up anything specific.

This does raise another question- my boat did not have anodes on the shafts when I took possession - is that unusual? Should I add them?

Thanks,

Cheryl

My boat does not have shaft zincs either. As I understand it Sea Ray did not put them on. Some add them, but I do not think they are necessary.

I didn't have them when I purchased the boat but I added them. I figure 50 bucks is great for the margin of safety.

Keep an eye on them. I've heard story's of the zinc sliding aft and blocking water flow to the cutlass bearings. I had them on a previous boat and did not experience it though.

Here's one for all the experience 460 owners on here..............

When servicing my Generator last season, I noticed the steering bar that goes between the two rudders behind the genset was very very rusty. I'm talking big flaky material falling off when touched.

I am going down to the boat in 10 days time and would like to remove the old bar and get a new one made up and fitted.

Does anybody have experience in doing this job? Is it a job that can be done with the boat in the water, obviously an accurate measurement will be taken between the bolt holes to ensure the rudders are still in line when the new bar is fitted.

Looking forward to your advice / guidance.

Graham

Graham, My parts manual has the Sea Ray number 1039445 for the tie bar. Not sure if they are still available.

Mike my 410 had shaft zincs - and yes - one slid down to the cutless bearing. Talking to Sea Ray, they said they do not recommend them, but as you said, a some owners add them.

Given that I am in the UK and my boat is in Spain, I suspect getting one made locally will be much quicker and easier, probably cheaper too..

Am hoping someone can advise how difficult this part is to remove and refit.

Graham. I too have the exact same issue. Not sure it's that big of a deal but cosmetically it looks horrible. Watching this closely.

Spoke to the SeaRay dealers here and in Spain, they have no stock and neither does the factory, so will take it off and get a new one made, just wanted to know if anybody else has done this.

Graham, Search this part number 1039445 on the forum search. There was a thread from 2015 that discusses this problem. Capt. Rust Higgins from Sea Ray may be able to help. Good Luck!

Just had my companionway steps done in real Teak and Holly. What a great craftsman. Guys name is Mark Craven in Kemah TX.

We talked about adding a non-skid to the varnish but I decided to try it without first. It's actually not bad, but if it becomes a safety issue he said it's not that big of a deal to varnish in some non skid.

As an update on the rusty steering tie bar.

The local Marine service shop in Spain (they are Volvo Marine Agents) removed the old tie bar (the plate that the steering arm mounts on to was three quarters rusted away) they made a new one and fitted it for less than a new part would have cost from Sea Ray without adding on the freight bill.

So very happy to have that one out of the way.

While down there extracting the old one out through the space under the genset, they noticed the starboard raw water hose between the seacock and the strainer had rusted wire poking out through the rubber pipe and leaking into the bilge. So both of those were replaced with new hose clips included in the price.

Great to get caught up on the thread! A lot of nice pictures recently, love those new teak and holly steps...GORGEOUS!
Been doing a lot of updating on our 460 and just finished with some SeaDek on the platform and a couple walking surfaces. New Raymarine Touch screen plotter, VHF, NovaKool fridge..the list seemed to never end but was fun!

Sea Deck looks nice! Where is your boat? Do you really have a garage big enough for this boat? I think I might have garage envy ;). Anyway thanks for the comment on the steps, I have Corinthian marine cockpit vinyl coming next week so I'll post pics of that once it's done as well.

Graham: they were able to get the tie bar out without removing the generator platform? I am in a similar situation with that so I would love to have any details you can provide.
