40 sedan bridge forum

Reading other posts it seems trim tabs should not need topping up unless there is a leak. I think i am good, but I’m intrigued as to methods used to get close enough to the 400db trim tab reservoir to actually do this, even with the smarts I saw mentioned like wine glass stems and ketchup squirting bottles etc . I’m assuming they are all in the same place as mine across our boats, starboard behind main exhaust pipe . Maybe I need to start yoga

Mine is to the left of the generator battery, shouldn't be a problem, although I've never had to do anything to it so can't speak from experience. Apparently in a different place than yours?

That’s where mine is and it’s tough to refill!

Scooper, yours is behind the exhaust? What’s it mounted to?
Mine is like your pic. Behind the exhaust (sort of) and on the aft bulkhead. The hard part for me is getting the lid off due to bumping the light fixture.

Sure would. My accumulator tank is back there and that’s a long reach to open the valve to winterize it.
I checked out the trim tab pump and it looks like the best thing to fill that little fill port is a syringe. I keep a bunch of the west marine west systems ones on the boat for injecting epoxy into whatever. Looks like they would work perfect.

I’m jealous , mine is on inside of hull behind hot water tank and it has the accumulator as a friend . Maybe SR realised how dumb it was out there and moved it with later models, mine is first year . So if anyone has my setup or has worked out how to get past the exhaust hose to inside of starboard hull behind hot water tank ? Also if anyone has found need to top up just as a maintenance item, as opposed to due to a leak . See pic

OMG, it is out there, we’ll then….
I removed the exhaust hose when I replaced my generator muffler a few years back to give me the room I needed. Hard to believe that might be necessary, but I don’t know. I think you are right, the light bulb must have finally lit up and they moved it. I’ve never had to add fluid to mine in almost 10 years, if it was a regular thing, it might be worth moving it. Keep your fingers crossed I guess. Good luck.

Interesting. I didn’t have any problem replacing the generator muffler with both the 3” and 6” exhaust hoses in place.

Actually, I once removed the generator muffler and generator exhaust hose and generator battery to crawl back there and replace a cockpit floor drain thruhull in the corner and to remove the accumulator (it split in two). If the tab reservoir had been over there next to the accumulator it would have been no problem to work on it. I did all that work shimmying in on my back.

Double jointed? Or just lean and mean:)

5’ 10”. 170lbs. Size does matter in this case. Biggest hassle was the two water pumps. Considered removing them as well but somehow managed around them. Don’t remember what I did with the two water lines coming from the tank to the pumps. I must have disconnected and capped them and moved them out of the way.

I crack the valve open to see the pink come through. Same as opening a sink faucet. If your using air, it probably drains back through the empty water line.

Hi has anyone replaced there ice maker with a fridge and curious which fridge you used as a direct replacement.thank you

My direct replacement is three deep cycle batteries in a battery tray, on the starboard circuit, and a solar charging regulator, with room to spare for other stuff if I need it. I only need one fridge on the boat , it’s not a long walk . one of these days I’ll put in more isolation to separate the battery bank more, just haven’t worked out how yet. Needs to still charge from engine but not be part of cranking , but that’s another discussion . If you do do that fridge project, search boating with boogaboo videos on YouTube, Paul The owner I think did it on his DB 400 previous boat, and has done it recently in his Sundancer which is similar setup if I recall correctly. Looks almost plug and play as long as the size is correct

I also did not replace the ice maker. I put a second subwoofer in a box and shoved it to the back, to give us a full sound when in the aft cockpit. The rest of the cabinet holds a mop bucket, the small shop vac, boat washing bucket and other stored items. Great to have additional storage for stuff you don’t want to take inside.

The PO of our floating turd replaced the ice maker for a freezer. Dumb. If we can't sell the POS I'll eventually put an icemaker back in. We miss having one.
