Official 380 Thread

Over 2000 hours. Was not very well maintained by the prior owner with oil sample showing very old oil. Want to baseline all the mechanical systems, so out it came.

Supposedly the more you run them the better. Low hours on a genni not good.

I'm planning to tackle some of the engine service myself next weekend, specifically the starboard engine. Any tips or tricks for removing the cockpit seating so I can get better access?

Changing out some gold in the salon, looking to take the reading lights out. I did the one in the aft first, I THOUGHT that was a pita.
Damn, the 2 in the stateroom! The splices are above the trim that it’s mounted to. Trying to gently pull them through the ceiling to unplug. No movement that I can see…. Who else has changed these, and what advice do you have?

So, I figured this out, first one in the aft is where to start. It’s just tight, but straight forward.

-in the front, Loosen the screw in the track that keeps the end of the curtain from sliding aft, move it out of the way.
-remove the speaker for which ever side you are going to start on
-on the section that your light is on, remove the screw that holds it up towards the center (there is 3 sections). Also remove the long screws that hold the track up, the most forward one, then it has 2 or 3 short ones, then another long one, remove at least half.
-if you feel along the back side of the trim of that section, you will find where they screwed right through the Vinyl to hold it up. Very small and it’s in the radius….
once you get that, the ceiling should wedge down enough to get to the wires.
-remove light (2 flat screws, one on each side. Should be able to slide the wire down a little l, if not, feed some from the speaker hole access.

-Unplug light, remove the 2 Phillips screws that mount the back plate…
-crimp ends on your new fixture. Mine was a male on the black and a denial on the red.
Plug in, make sure it works properly. Then mount new fixture. Put together in reverse order.

My new lights have a usb charger also,

What did you have to remove to get it out? Exhaust tubes? Curious how it came out.

Correct, the starboard exhaust tubes were pretty much it. Additionally, bought a tilt-lift hoist sling off Amazon for $80. This was critical, as it allowed for tilting the generator at different angles to get it out, otherwise there would have been a lot more scraping. Used a forklift as the attach point with a chain hoist.
Putting it back is going to be interesting, as I would prefer not to scratch up the refurbished generator. Have some sheets of lexan I plan on cutting to lay up against the starboard engine and the fuel tank. Should create a smooth "chute" to assist dropping it back in place. We'll find out.

Use heavy duty cardboard. It'll go right in.

Just me and the forklift operator. The tilt-lift hoist sling made all the difference. It has a cable drum that uses a 1/2 inch ratchet to make 1/4" tilt adjustments on the fly with one hand. Would not have even tried it but the mechanic who did the engine surveys, assured me he had done this multiple times for a diesel 380DA.

@douglee25, agree about the heavy cardboard. Just happen to have scrap items in our shop.

I may have missed it, what make/model light did you go with? I'd love to get rid off all of the brass lights, thought I see where brass/gold fixtures have made a comeback in houses.

my wife said the same thing about gold. I just don't like it, so out they go. i will save them, if the gold is something i want, i can put the knobs/trip/lights back... i just don't think i will get there... lol

I'm ready to swap out the cabin headliner lamps for LED. I slid a screwdriver behind the brass ring and it looks like the whole thing's trying to come out, is that the best way to get them out?
