The future of EVs? Maybe not so bad?

I have said in this very thread that EVs aren’t ready for prime time, there is NO WAY there will be 100% sales in 2035, and no one will be forced out of their ICE car in 2035. Yet the same things are posted over and over for 25 pages. These cars aren’t ‘evil’. They aren’t good or bad. They are simply mechanical devices that do a job. They do have advantages and disadvantages to gas cars. Those advantages and disadvantages will evolve over time. We will NEVER have 100% EV adoption. Not in 2035, not in 2050.

I don’t think the government should be manipulating gas prices. They should be investing in the development of technology (such as, but not limited to EVs). They should be investing in our grid. They should be investing in markets that will give us an upper hand over other countries. They should be working to incentivize manufacturing in our own country, so that we spend less fuel shipping products around the world, and that we have a wide variety of job options here instead of just medical and service jobs. One of my deciding factors in my car purchase was it’s US made content. Which, Tesla cars are near the top of that list. I briefly considered a Volvo, but I’m not interested in supporting them and their Chinese owners. My wife also looked at a Land Rover, but again that’s an Indian company and I’m not interested in supporting them. I’m not saying these things should be important to you, but they are important to me. Besides a Miata my last ten vehicle purchases were US / Canadian made vehicles.

Perhaps you guys think that I don’t care about the rising gas prices? That isn’t it. I do care. I also care that my son is losing options for decent jobs to countries like India and China. I just realize that there’s nothing we do or say here that will have an effect on these things. I also realize that one of the remaining benefits of this stupid two party system we have is that the other party will often undo the things that were done in the previous 4 years. And personally I don’t really enjoy talking about politics. Which is why I often disappear for a few weeks, because you guys NEVER stop talking politics. And really most of you don’t even talk politics, you’re just democrat bashing. Not everything they do is bad.

Good post. You cannot escape politics - it's infected all of society and life in the US! You need to learn to deal with it and laugh about it. It's about all we can do aside from going to the polling box and being more active in local politics. Name one good thing the democrats have done...I'll wait....

When you come to the realization that those in power are being controlled by others who are intent on destroying this country...everything will start to make sense to you.

The democrat party of today is a far cry from that of JFKs time....it has been hi-jacked by the far left and the mentally ill....

The folks that can't afford EV will be encouraged to consider this route. Some people think I'm stupid for saying it but it'll happen. If you'd say you have to far to pedal you'll be told to move. Eventually rural living will be minimized, everything you need and your life will be in the city.

Are you a believer in the great reset? This kind of feeds into that theory. Which if you buy into that theory, it seems to be supported by both parties.

I would never want the govt to control anything we do let alone take things away from us like Ice Cars. I am adamitly against shoving EV’s down our throats there are people that couldn’t afford a decent used car how will they buy a new EV? They won’t. The car and tech is what gets us we like it but not everyone can get what they need out of it. No matter the argument it’s fine for road trips so you may add some time here and there for charging we drove 250 miles to south beach at 85 miles per hour AC blasting on Autopilot and stopped once for a quick charge so we had extra when we arrived and to eat. We still have ICE cars that get 19 MPG and I ordered a Bronco that does the same the Tesla is much faster than my Audi S5 coupe and fun to drive but it has a place in our world not everyone’s World.
A lot of empty chargers while we charged.

How do you like the white seats?

How do you like the bronco? We have a wrangler that might get replaced with a bronco at some point in the future. I’ve also read that the scout international might be coming back.

With a EV weighing roughly a 1,000 lbs. more then the same size gas car what effect to the roads will this also have not to mention pluss tires and wear and tear to the EV car.

Instead they are shutting them down as fast as they can while convincing folks to buy EVs...
Not quite - the enviro people worked and protested to get Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in Ca shut down for the last 40 years and now when PG&E have started to shut it down the same enviro's are protesting it can't be shut down for environmental reasons.

It’s a shame nuclear was abandoned. Just another case of us getting in our own way.

I think it's another case of allowing the fringe to control policy and decision. I was a mechanical engineer during the construction era and was lucky enough to work on a number of nuclear plants in the 70's and early 80's. So I'm a bit biased albeit knowledgeable and informed on the subject. When that ended I morphed into the space launch industry which was great also.
