I have 22p props which should theoretically be mid wot range with 2.0 and top rpm wot with 2.2. I can pack either setup since I have both upper units.
My concern is that one spins pretty easy (2 fingers on yoke) while other i have to grab with whole hand and twist significantly to spin...
One small difference in upper b1 is 27x32
B3 is 23x30.
Basically 1.5 vs 1.65 b1 or 2.0 vs 2.2 b3.
Not sure if this could cause higher resistance as ratio is higher in my b3 upper. But difference is significant
I'm in process of replacing bravo one for bravo 3.
Got bravo 3 in 'decent' condition, cleaned it, repainted...
Just pulled bravo one from the boat and when in neutral on bravo one upper shaft that goes into coupler spins pretty freely, while bravo 3 have some resistance.
Since uppers are...
white aluminum oxide, I haven't blasted it myself, shop from which I purchased the drive did.
I took back cover to clean cavity where shifting mechanism is and seal seems fine. pressure tested few hours at 10psi... rotated shafts few times, all good.
Ye, 2 part paint would be great, but I...
I'm planning to install drive in few weeks, and pull it out again in April for inspection and maintenance. so will let you know how it holds.
I read everywhere that factory paint is much more durable then anything diy, and it's best to just clean/#scuff old paint and prime/paint it.
On first...
outdrive is painted, looks solid.
I have small amount of rust on yokes, surface, no pitting, is it ok to wipe it with rust remover?
I purchased this outdrive, wasn't on my boat previously, but it doesn't look like water went through bellow, as the surface rust is only on one side. it was stored...
Haven't thought about the prop clearance, good point, will check it. My concern was that they might left it exposed for mercathode to do it's thing or something.
I'm on a freshwater lake, so I thought this preKote things as prep should work fine, wasn't confident using alodine on a driveway...
I'm preparing outdrive for painting and noticed that bearing carrier is originally not painted.
Since the drive was media blasted, I believe whatever protective coat it had is gone.
Is there any reason not to paint it together with the drive?
Regarding painting process, idea is following. 1...
sorry for late reply.
there were two issues.
1. switch behind tachometer was positioned for 6 cyl engine instead of 8.
with this fixed actual rpm wot was 4400.
2. since speed at that rpm was slow, i figured prop is slipping too much and changed it to 4 blade. It's much better now.
I had similar situation once on another boat, didn't perform well with tabs down (usually planed much better with them down).... I anchored and asked my wife to click the switches and tabs were stuck up, after pulling them down with hands hard few times, they started working again. Maybe your...
That's 300hp, so original equiped was 16x17.
I believe it would be hard to find exactly same model of prop, and even then other prop despite looking good is probably off the original specs, so I would replace both once boat is out of the water.
