40 sedan bridge forum

Hi all. I'm new to the forum. Purchased a 1997 400 sedan with the 300hp cats about a month ago. Since then it's been a learning experience and this forum has been a great resource. Thanks to all and glad to join the community of 400 owners. We love the boat and are so happy with our choice. Ok on to my question. We have two 30 amp power lines which run to a splitter on the dock. I'm thinking I should have a splitter in the trunk and use one power cord. Thoughts?

I need to figure out what to do with my electric as well. Currently, I have a 50 amp cord that runs from the dock pedastal to a splitter in the trunk that goes to the 2 30 amp connections. However, my marina is very expensive for a summer season of electricity. They charge $80 for one 30amp, $185 for two 30 amps, and $375 for one 50 amp. I'm not sure if my current setup would be considered two 30 amps, or one 50 amp. I'm thinking the latter since that is what is plugged into the pedestal. If that's the case, I may run two 30 amp cords to the pedestal on the dock and save a little money.

If you have two 30 amp outlets on the dock always use those. Only use the 50 amp splitter when there is not two 30s. I have found in my travels that pedestals rarely have two 30s. Most have one 30 and one 50. So I carry two 50' 30 amp cords and a short 50 amp splitter

Regarding the direct galley sink drain mod. Any chance the drain could be T connection to the sump discharge line to avoid a new thru-hull? Would probably need to add a loop to the discharge to avoid flow back. I may look into this[/QUOTE

Bill, That should work. Let us know if you get to it before I do

So I have a 30 amp pedestal. I plug a 30 amp splitter into the pedestal and run two 30 amp cords to the boat. I was thinking the alternative is to use the splitter in the boat trunk and just run one 30 amp cord to the pedestal.

I have a problem I'm trying to figure out. Attached is a pic of the floor storage of the guest stateroom. It keeps filling with brown water. Looks like waste but does not smell. I thought it only happened when the holding tank was full but yesterday the storage compartment filled up with 3 inches when the holding tank was 1/2 full. I've looked in the sump compartment for a clue but can't see anything obscure. Short of pulling the guest head and looking for a leak any ideas? Btw the toilets work fine.

Yes from under the black rubber. Must have been doing this for a long time. But I'm having a hard time finding the source. The black waste line which runs near there seems dry on the exterior.

I had a starboard windshield leak that showed up in the cabinet above the sink in the guest head. So water can come from anywhere, even far away. Does it only show up after it rains?

I don't know why the dinette couldn't be converted to a sleeper. It's done all the time on the Cave Boats (Sundancers!). They have a wood strip that's fastened to the front of each of the bench seats, a piece of 1x2 would work. Then the table is pulled up, the leg removed from it, and the table lowered onto the pieces of 1x2. The cushions from around the back of the dinette are then put on top of the table. Presto, a sleeper for two kids.

Good idea, I'll look into that. Do you have any photos? That's probably an easy, inexpensive option. Thanks!

Also this weekend I was aboard a friends Rampage sportfish and he had some custom made ottomans that might work if made to measure for the dinette. Two would probably work and double as ottomans in the salon too.

The problem is the brace for the table post is on the floor and sticks up quite a bit. So an ottoman wouldn't sit flat on the floor there. I think the only option is what Gofirstclass mentioned. Seems fairly straightforward if you can get a custom filler cushion made.

No pics because I haven't owned that boat for a long time. Basically what it consisted of was a strip of oak 1x2 that was cut to the length of the bench seat. It was screwed to the front of the bench seat at a height where the top of the strip was just below the level where the cushions on the seat rested. Here's a hastily drawn sketch so you can get an idea. Obviously there would be an identical oak strip on the opposite bench. The table top rests on the oak strips. The amount that the oak strip would be mounted below the level where the cushions sit would be equal to the thickness of the table.

I wonder if the table would even fit there. Since it was not designed for this purpose, it probably isn't the correct size to fit perfectly between the 2 benches. I could be wrong, but I 'd be willing to bet it wouldn't fit. No big deal though, you could simply cut a piece of wood to fit in that spot instead.

Thank you for taking the time to make a sketch!

I am on the boat and just measured. The width between the bases is 23 3/4". The width between the cushion bottoms is about 21". The width of the table is 23 5/8". So it would fit if you could remove one cushion to angle it in.

Hmmm, this is interesting as I was considering this mod last year but I thought I had disconnected the table top and couldn't get it to fit between the benches. I had no tape measure handy though. If we can get the table to fit in btween the benches and add some custom filler cushions, would it be wise to try and use the short table leg from the bridge table for extra support? The one that's supposed to be used when converting the bridge table to a large sunpad/bed. I wonder if that would miraculously fit as well. I think I would want a little more support for those more rambunctious guests that would probably be sleeping on the dinette.

Ok back to my water problem in the guest stateroom floor storage. Water continues to accumulate. It has been raining lately and we went out in 4 ft seas. I can't find a leak anywhere but have not yet removed the toilet. The waste lines are old but not leaking. I found the fart fan vent in the guest head detached from the thru hull. Perhaps salt water hits the clamshell and makes its way down the interior hull wall settling in the guest storage. Any thoughts. I will drain the water. ReAttach the vent tube and see what happens.
