CSR Northeast Flotilla 2013

Guys,

As I mentioned earlier, I was asked to pass along the official Taylor's Island rules. Here they are:

Please remember, Taylor’s Island is located in an isolated residential community and adjacent preserve. Please be respectful of our neighbors.
Individuals, groups or organizations using Taylor’s Island and the Smith-Taylor Cabin agree to the following:

  1. Daytime use is from dawn to dusk unless other arrangements have been made with the Taylor’s Island Foundation.
  2. The number of people at any single event cannot exceed 100 persons.
  3. No open fires or fire in the Cabin fireplace are permitted. No candles, oil lanterns, propane or kerosene lights are permitted. Contained fires OUTSIDE of the building will be permitted “in outdoor grills or outdoor fireplaces for the purposes of preparing food, or recreational campfires, so long as the fire is properly controlled and a nuisance is not created “(Town of Shelter Island Code, Chapter 47.4 [Amended 10-3-2008 by L.L. No. 8-2008]).
  4. Amplified or live music is allowed but must conform to the Town Code Chapter 92.5 A. “No person shall operate, use, cause or permit to be operated any device creating amplified sound that produces a sound level measured at or beyond the real property line of the generating property in excess of 50 dB(A)s”.
  5. Access to the Island is by water. There are two floating docks, a fixed dock and a ramp available as well as a kayak/beach landing area. Access to the Island by land is restricted and, therefore, by prearrangement with the Foundation only.
  6. Access is restricted to Taylor’s Island grounds only. Walking beyond the causeway is prohibited.
  7. No smoking is permitted in or close to the Smith-Taylor Cabin at any time.
Clean-up: please leave the Island and Cabin as you found them. No garbage or waste should be left behind. Grounds and facility should be cleaned within 24 hours of activity unless other arrangements are made.

Ok, so we arrived at Todd's marina (me, Ron, Johnathan ) what a trip!!!! I was taking spray over the hardtop. And what a Manuver getting into the marina. I watched as Ron throttled up to enter and looked like he was coming in on his swimplatform the wind was probably in excess of 30mph we had white caps and 4' -5' waves if not larger! After settling into our slips we are eating dinner and our captains meeting will commence when Todd arrives. We're looking to depart around 0700 hrs and arrive at Treasure cove marina before lunch. Everyone here is very excited about this trip despite the bad weather on our first leg.all I can say is:"Watch out shelter Island here we come"

Ok, finally got most of my crap stowed away. We had a little cole slaw calamity when we arrived. Apparently I have to send my chef back tray wrapping school! The good news is the juice seemed to rinse right out of everything! I just got done rinsing the last cold carry bag. Fortunately the coleslaw survived for our feast , although I really wanted to punt it once I saw the leakage! Ok, time for some quick shut eye & about 4 1/2 hours sleep! Yippee!

It looks like the wind is starting to pick up. What you guys decided, going inside or taking a pick outside?

How was the depth through Moriches Bay? Any point to look out for out there? I'm planning to head out to Greenport on the 17th.

Yes!!! As Joe posted earlier, if your heading east you have to head north at buoy 17 to 17a/ 18 then back down to 20. The way the buoys are positioned they actually look like canal markers. Don't be fooled like Neil was. That was out first ground touch of the day! Next Joe decided to take a nap instead of watching his gps and had a nice grounding. Then eventually I had a soft hit in view of the shinnecock bridge. All in all ridiculous low water!

Is that north side of the island in front of Moriches inlet? I thought that channel was impassable and had to go around the south side of island.
