What can be done to quiet a Kohler generator?

I promise all of you, get the duel stage! You won't be disappointed.

It's not the genny manufacture, it was a place in Atlanta I believe. Nice people.

I found the manufacture by the sticker on the side. He even made an offer to take it back if I wasn't happy...

I loved it!!!

Less than $ 200.00

Can you post few pics of your installation? I'd like to reduce the exshaust sound on mine as well, but I never seen a rig with extra mufler.

How do we know which we need? They seem to be on sale too. MM

I tried to call them earlier to find out and the phone rang 15 times then went to a fast busy so I am not sure what the deal is. I am pretty sure I have the 2 inch hose. I was going to try and find out where in line they are to be installed. I am assuming the muffler I have now is a "water lift" sytle but wanted to ask them some questions. If anyone else can get through, let us know.

I have changed my oem generator stuff to the onan muffler and resonator (2 different units) and it made a huge difference. Different brands but a similar concept it seems.

It was just like that. You replace the single stage with that one...

Mine was black though...

I now own the boat that beachcombersc is talking about. I will try to shoot a couple of photos of the install tomorrow. I will vouch for the quietness of the generator though; with the engine hatch closed the blowers are definitely what you hear. And in the cabin, all that can be heard is the air conditioner running.

Just last weekend I had a couple people in the cabin with me while I was starting the generator and I had to ask them to be quiet so I could hear if I had started it or not (I had!).

Tom, Is that with or without the surround? Thanks, we look forward to seeing the photos. MM

No surround. How's she running Gunn? We sure miss her still. Make sure you get your need for speed out before jumping to a large cruiser! I still miss throwing the hammers down on her once in a while...

She was always good to us!

If I can get in touch with these K&B guys I may give that one a try for no other reason than it looks alot easier to install than the full muffler assembly and is most likely quite a bit less expensive. I went down last night and started my genny. I believe if I could cut 40db+ (as advertised) I would be doing pretty good. I have to get them to answer the phone first though.

I have the single stage already so the dual stage should slip right in. I know, it never goes as planned. MM

I have the single stage as well however getting to it and possibly having to remove 240lbs of batteries to remove existing muffler, mount and secure new one and possibly re-route hoses makes it sound much more desirable to just cut the exhaust hose and clamp in an insert. I am betting that having a "single stage" and inline will be close to having a "dual-stage" but we will see I suppose. It seems like installing anything is worse than having to buy it. :)

Anyone have a price on the full dual stage assembly yet?

My quick search indicated $350 retail. MM

As stated....

Less than $200.00. Didn't need to remove anything to install, just the old one. Duel stage is the only way to go... Ask Gunn to take some video with sound.

That's why they(Searay) went to the duel later,it rocks!

Why add any metal to the wet system with a muffler add on? This is all fiberglass!

Will do, tonight when I get home and situated...

Boat is running great! But...vapor lock got me two weekends ago for the first time. Didn't have a clue what it was other than both my engines started for a few brief seconds, died, then refused to start again! Noticed it was pretty warm in the ER. Thankfully, we had just purchased the week before a blower fan for the cockpit, like you originally had in there when we sea-trialed her. Pointed that down in there and I think that did the trick as they eventually fired up. Arrived home after 10pm...love the radar! We don't regret our decision, it's a great boat.
