Sea Ray SSS 1993 63 ft

Dan, i am more of a gopher in the day time than doing repairs...i am off getting the parts, the oil, the zincs whatever we need!! In the night i get to doing simple stuff like button snaps on floor mats..sanding corrosion, dielectric grease on wires etc...

yes paul i am very uneasy about it all...I had a sea trial and had one of the top reccmended motor surveyors in the area on the boat.... how the hell could this be missed!!! the boat only has been moved to the opposit side of the canal, has not been run...i called him today and he said yes the transmission fluid was full on the sea trial and survey...i mean how the hell could it be empty right now...im pretty freaked out by this!! I am not having luck, i am just having a terrible run in every way and cant wait for it to end...

The new depth finder unit, that will work with my transducer...they want 580 bucks for!! The only good news is the captain knows the dock master and got me a very good daily price for the remainder of my stay... i dunno i should change my ticket again and stick here till the boat gets loaded, trusting that in anyone elses hands would not be smart!!! ..so still dont have the name of the boat or when its loading after multiple emails!!! it was originally supposed to be loaded today!! i mean wtf ...then i heard rumors it may go from west palm instead ...fing great!! The macerator pump makes a really nice noise sounds poetic but doesnt pump a damned thing!!! The pumps to pump oil into the engine sings away like pavarotti but doesnt pump a thing!!! when will all this **** end!

I love this boat but fck is it worth going through something like this...gotta say my spirits are down..i take one step forwards and five backwards and this is only phase two of this..still have to load it and still have to do with ozzie customs!! i totally understnd the people ozzie was talking too ..this is a friggin nightmare, i dunno if it all was worth it...i just feel shot right now ...i was under the impression i was getting into a boat where at least i did not have to worry about the motor at all!! its like not one step of this will just go smoothly!! Its fighting me every step of the way and im just sick of it!

Anyways theres my rant!

Someone called dan txted me hes from this board, he is coming to see the yacht on sunday morn.... finally will answer the question to all the non believers wether this is some big fancy story or its all true!!

So yeah chat at you guys tomorrow, dont even feel like working on the damn thing tonight! this boat hates me!

Rob,

Your not an island when it comes to buying a boat that is supposed to have passed its surveys with flying colours mate. I have been there and done that too, just like you I had one thing after another break once I took possesion of it. If there is one thing you soon learn about boats is they are a money pit. You either accept the fact that they are and get on with enjoying them or you get out of the game altogether. We have sunk so much money into ours that at the end of the day we said enough is enough and put it on the market, it is still costing us money and we are not even having the pleasure of using it.

There is a saying that goes something like, the two happiest moments of owning a boat is the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

Once we sell ours we are going to go back to owning a small runabout for fishing and having fun towing the kids around. It will be a trailer boatand have an outboard motor, something that does not cost an arm and a leg to run.

Rob,

I know it seems like the light at the end of the tunnel will never come but just think in a few short weeks/months it will all be behind you, you gained valuable experience and the boat will be in tip top shape. You now will have a starting point for all maintenence and also no the ins and outs of this beautiful boat.

Hang in there, it will get better!

OK, what an insane day!! Well good news in some respects but not in others!! Transmission leak is not the main seal but the port where the hose goes in from the oil pump in motor will be cheap and easy to fix.... found a major leak on port engine glad we found it ..2 hours labor to fix..no big deal so happy about that.... pulled the oil change pump out all it needs is a new impeller easy fix....now the best news, my swim platform works!!! something is locking it in place not sure what but the motors work and it tries to move but is just locked up, actually goes up and down about an inch ...will be an easy cheap fix which is amazing news!! I thought i was in for thousands on that but it bloody works can you guys believe it!!! so many things have come to life on this boat since i started things that just needed power flowing to them for a bit!!! the intercom didnt work..powered it down and up a few times and has worked since!!! the washer dryer just needed the plug to be pushed in better and its a great unit . you set the dry time, it then washes the clothes and then automatically dries them you dont have to do a thing but set it and leave!! messed with the macerator, well actually did a russian space hero fix on it and whacked it a few times..all of a sudden it started pumping!! well shut it off right away as its illegal, good thing as like 2 mins later the copper boat drove by lol that would have been a very hefty fine! still need my new depth finder and the cockpit radio is all screwy again.... otherwise im pretty much done everything is working on this thing!! oh wait cockpit guages still jump around..... so yeah everything is coming along well with things working that i thought wouldnt feeling better today!!

Now for the bad news, my cargo ship will not go out until the 20th of may at the earliest! Paul you asked for the name of it, its the thor galaxy.... so have to find a much cheaper berth for this until then.... i will berth it and go home have the yacht path people look after it and come back for the loading i just have to get home, cannot stay like this another month!

So good news that the oil problems are minor and cheap fixes, good news on the oil change pump!! Awesome freakin news on the swim platform, thats what i am sooooo happy about can get a proper tender now!!! bad news on the ship, apparently it ewas supposed to go through the suez canal but was rerouted through the panama canal because of piracy in the gulf of aden and hence cant get through until then so supposedly its headed to europe and back in the meantime crazy...that date is a guess and i have a feeling it will be even longer than that!! So i will fly back for that date and just stay on the boat till it sails! Well at least i can track the ship now that i have its name!

This is one crazy business this buying a boat and shipping it across the world!! Has definately given me some dain bramage! :) Its like a never ending story of new events new problems and things to tackle, i should name this damn boat victory. , although i should not get ahead of myself i am not victorious yet! I have decided on a name but then feel iffy about it ...wanted to name it Le Cabaret after teh first theatre i ever performed in and my father built.... but dunno people might think im weird...hahah damnit why cant i pick a name...hey actually kinda like victory!

So the saga continues, stay tuned for the next installment lol someone from this forum is coming on sunday, i will finally have definative proof that this is not made up but happening!!
Ciaooo

Hey Rob,
I have jumped in & out of this thread only recently. Someday I will sit down & read it from the beginning because I still don't know how you went from a 63 SS and ended up with a 54 DA. Either way, I don't care if it is real or fake. It makes for very entertaining reading. I hope all works out for you because it sounds like you have certainly dealt with your share of headaches!

The End.

How about "Encore" as a boat name?

The lift was welded up and now it working? It's a miracle!!!

I was told it was welded up by the previous owner... had a diver go in the water and look he could not find any welds... me and the captain were on the back talking about stuff and he asked does it work at all .. i said no i tried it before and nothing... has a control unit on a cable n a transom hatch.. I pulled it out and pushed the button and it jumped upwards.. you should have seen the look on my face lol ..did the same for down.. i couldnt believe it and we did nt do anything to it!! but it only moves a few inches.... what we think is there are locks on those things when it comes up...that the lock may be stuck, barnacle or something... i dunno got to get in the water... so no it is not fully fuctional but the hydraulics and motor works so just have to figure out whats stopping it from going up or down...much cheaper fix than if i had hydraulic probs etc.... A whole bunch of things were like that on this boat ...the intercom system did not work at all...after turning it off and on a bunch of times it now works.... the washer dryer would not work at all ...pulled out the tv pulled the plug out put it back in...it now works.... so no not a miracle just seems like this boats systems had not been touched in 5 years im guessing and are all slowly coming back to life! I know its weird...i swear i tried to get that lift to move 50 times before... pushed the button today and it works...maybe it is a miracle lol Even the captain i have helping me keeps just saying this boat is weird!! hey i dont care how things start working again as look as they keep working im happy...my only worry is if things just start working all on their own there is probably a pretty good chance they will just stop working again all on their own ...may mean some wiring probs somewhere!

So you're saying you bought a boat where nothing was working and you accepted it?

No turtlesboat, i bought a boat with excellent engines and is cosmetically in amazing shape, that had very many little problems like bad valves in pumps, bad imppellers in pumps etc. The heart of the boat is the engines and they are in very good shape the port engne is a fresh rebuild, the motor surveyor called me over when he did the borescope and said this is rediculous..i thought oh no, he then said no its rediculous what an amazing shape this engine is for its age it must be new... the engines made the boat worth the sale well along with its cosmetic condition, i planned on getting everything together which i am doing. When i am done this will be an amazing yacht in every way and well worth the struggles. Yes i got frustrated a few times as quite a few unexpected things all happened at once and i was on a very tight deadline. I got a very good price on this yacht and it is worth twice as much as what i am spending on it total back home. Even here it is worth 100 or so more grand than what i paid for it.
I knew there were a ton of small problems with things but also knew i could fix them! Maybe once Dan visits me on Sunday and confirms the boat is indeed in great shape and it does exist you guys will all stop doubting the things i say! From what i have heard from everyone i have talked to here at the marina, all that i have been going through is consistant with buying a used boat especially one that has not been used much, apparently just the engines had been run every week..so things like switches, the ac etc all have not been used at all for years.. would make sense it took wires etc a bit to warm up to being used again, corrosion on terminals etc. So i still dont quite get why a few of you find all of this not believable! I am sure i am not the first to go through an experience similar to this! In fact Paul earlier in this thread said he went through similar things when he bought his boat

messed with the macerator, well actually did a russian space hero fix on it and whacked it a few times..all of a sudden it started pumping!! well shut it off right away as its illegal, good thing as like 2 mins later the copper boat drove by lol that would have been a very hefty fine!

You really don't know how lucky you were... These days, we all would have been reading about you in the paper. "Crazed Austrailan in custody after committing biological terrorist attack on a Florida marina while screaming "I'll kill it, I tell you I'll kill the bloody thing!!!"". :smt043

I have decided on a name but then feel iffy about it ...wanted to name it Le Cabaret after teh first theatre i ever performed in and my father built.... but dunno people might think im weird...hahah damnit why cant i pick a name...

Rob,

That is a fine name, with a good story. No one would find that to be weird...

Why not "My Cabaret" since the other one sorta belonged to your father, and this one belongs to you?

Michael

Rob, very sorry about your troubles but i have got ask. Who recommended your TOP surveyor(s) and what were there names? Inquiring minds want to know.

I would be interested in who you used as a surveyor as well. Always good to know who the top ones are. And as a follow up question was it the same person as you used to survey the 63SSS?

Different surveyors for the 54 than the 63. I had 2 surveyors, a motor surveyor and regular surveyor, I feel very hesitant to give their names here online as i have complained about a few problems like my oil leak and tranny leak, and would not want to hurt their reputations, this is how these guys make their living and i am actually very happy with the job they did and would not want to cause them any grief! I am very cautious about saying names online , especially when it comes to peoples jobs! So im sorry HiFI but i am not going to give the names. If i had not been detailing all thats going on and talked about issues with the ship then sure, i just do not want people to make opinions of the job they did and maybe cause some harm to their reputations as they really did do a good job. I was aware of all the little issues i have been dealing with...the only surprises were the two leaks i have found which are not turning out to be a big deal anyway.

This is totally crazy, but what can i say this whole adventure has been totally crazy! My broker took me to lunch today, hes a great guy.... he told me there is a possibility that he may have someone that would be interested in this yacht for almost 80 k more than what i paid for it and agreed to a comission cost that would leave me x amount of dollars after, it works out for him as although he would take a less in commission, he already got the commission from the sale of this yacht, would get commission for the resale of it then commission for the next purchase would make for one happy broker lol.... there is a 630 sss thats immaculate and very clean that i put an offer on before this 54 we bounced back and forth and got it to within 30 k of what i could do.... well if i flipped this now i would be able to get it and still have made profit on this yacht!! So I told the broker you have 3 weeks my price is x amount of dollars firm, if he can flip it in that time i will jump into the 630 sss instead and send that home lol How is that for a nutty twist on the whole thing, will be the 3rd boat i am involved in if it happens. so we will see what happens!
This 630 is super clean with fresh rebuilds so would be a great move i could get myself into a 63 like i originally wanted make some profit on this!! So only time will tell we will see wether i take this home or a 63 like i started off with...man what a seriously twisted crazy adventure this is... although would be hard to give this yacht up as it is real nice... but in the end a 63 is much bigger and that one is in amazing shape so we will see! So not saying this will happen, just saying its something thats out there and could possibly happen!

Dan who was supposed to visit me this morning from this forum txted me, apparently some surprise work came up and he could not make it, so i still have not got confirmation for you guys...im here for 3 more weeks at least so anyone is welcome anytime to come visit!!

I can already hear you guys going on about how im full of it again lol oh well you believe me or you dont!

Rob,
If you ever do get the boat of your dreams home I'm going to need a cigarette and cold shower from staying up with this thread.:lol::lol::lol:

PS... I don't even smoke.

Hi Rob,

isn't your boat supposed to be loading this Thursday?? Not sure what your shipping company will think about this as they work out their logistics to the last little bit and weight placement
Better check that you aren't going to be charged for that space..Furthermore they may not have a ship heading down here in the next few weeks. Might be months
and what happens if the 80k guy doesn't buy??

Anyway..life can be one big drama..you will be bored if this doesn't continue at this pace LOL
