alex,
congrats on the new boat.
the cabin fever is getting to us with all of the snow around.
went to visit the boat this past weekend and there was still about a foot of snow in the marina. in any event, we are looking to explore more this summer and i think i am comfortable with taking out pocket cruiser to the canal and SI, so what the heck, the MYC sounds great. would like to go with payme paul and todd as we are coming from similar areas.. paul, i will displace you as the smallest member of the flotilla. block feels like a stretch , but maybe with the right conditions, who knows. looking forward to handing with you guys again. knot for sail 26sd 28.6l 8.6 b ron, wendy stacey , jon

Ron,
What exactly do you mean? Did I miss something from the last gathering?? I'm looking forward to meeting you guys but I would like to keep it strictly platonic!!

Watch Hill last summer..believe you werent there the day of the LI Rendevous:thumbsup:... vacationing somewhere :)

Hey guys,

I want to thank everyone for prompt responses. I think I've got about 90% of the info for the group. I'll contact those whose info is still pending. Some people aren't sure 100% about the dates, which is perfectly understandable. Obviously we still have plenty of time to make the decision, but I guess if we try to wrap our group sheet up with all necessary info by the end of the month it would be great. Hopefully by then folks from “Maybes” list will start moving up to the “List of Participants”.

Ron,
Just joking with you. I was busting on your "handing" comment.

Yea, sorry I missed that one last year right in my own back yard! I couldn't get my wife to move our 10 year anniversary cruise to Bermuda to another week!

I am looking forward to this year though. I will finally get to do some running! Who else beside you, Paul and myself will be running from the GSB?

as the snow melts more folks will get into the spirit.
i believe a few of my dock mates may be into the adventure.
hope so as the more the merrier....

Hey guys,

Just wanted to give you a quick update that I've sent our official reservation file to MYC dockmaster for all 14 boats which are on the "List of Participants". I also mentioned that we have another 6 boats on the list of "Maybes".

I'll keep everyone posted as I hear anything from MYC.

I will be heading to MYC from the Patchogue River, though the conditions through Moriches Bay will dictate whether I go that way or out FI Inlet and take the Ocean route to either Shinnecock Inlet or straight to Montauk. :smt009 I will make that decision in June or July.

Brian,

since its a new trip for me, i would be interested in following the caravan, assuming my pocket cruiser has what it takes. if outside, i know i would have to duck into shinnecock for fuel.
thanks
Ron

Brian,
If conditions are favorable you can run through Moriches bay to Shinnecock canal right? I'm hoping to run that way myself as I obviously draft less than you.
I was thinking of anchoring out @ Shelter Island that Friday with Alex then heading to MYC Sat. AM. But, If I am running with a group I certainly will do what makes them the most comfortable! If everyone is going straight there I will go too if that's what they want. I'm good either way. I guess we will play it by ear as we get closer. I am looking forward to this trip!!

Todd, Ron

Sure, anyone is welcome to follow me (always a good idea to follow a deeper draft vessel, just not too closely). By good conditions in Moriches Bay I was refering to the depth of the chanel itself and the dogleg by the CG station, not the weather. Even at high tide I've got just about 2' under my running gear. Dock to Dock, MYC is about 4 hrs. for me, no need for a stopover in Shelter Island.

Brian,

Are there any interesting spots in the Shinnecock Bay area? I'm debating a stop over Westhampton vs. something I haven't visited yet and closer to the Shinnecock inlet.

Brian,
I knew what you were reffering to with the dredging. I remember the thread you and Russ ( Shinsr) had going on the poor conditions last year as well as the local input you guys received. Didn't the Seatow Capt. give you guys some BAD advice regarding bouys?
I also understand that there is no "need" for a stop over. I just thought it might be cool to try as I have never anchored overnight before. That being said, it may be too many firsts for me on this trip!!
Therefore, I'm cool with going staight to MYC too!! I will call Paul to see what his wishes are as we get closer. I am still getting jacked up for this trip!!

the plan for us ideally [for the first time factor too] would be to spend the night anchored in SI.... of course the plan is etched into the sand at low tide.

Hey Ron,
Like I said, I'm open to any thing the group wants to do. I like etching comment! I would guess that all plans at this stage have significant fluidity to them!!

Paul,

In the event if you're far from Moriches, it looks like the best option for the group (based on the tides info here) is to spend the Thursday night at Watch Hill and head start Friday morning around 5:30am-6:00am. So it all depends on your location to Moriches. If most of you are not too far it makes it easier. But, keep in mind that all activities (getting ready, casting off, meeting the grou, etc.) add time, so early in AM this time will run out fast. I know that most of you will be ok an hour later the high tide, but remember that Brian need dead high tide, so he can't afford to loose any time.

Just thinking loud and trying to help.

Alex,
I know you bridge guys have to stick together!! LOL:lol:

Seriously, that is good advice. We all dock close by but, The meeting up factor could be an issue. I will obviously sleep on the boat thursday night so I can run early Friday!!

Hey BTW, it's supposed to hit almost 60 degrees here this Friday!! WooHoo!!:wow: Now, if my family is done battling this stomach virus by then , maybe we can take advantage of the weather!!
