Underwater LED Light Install

Ehaze...

I'm using the same switches that came in my 195... I purchased two of them a year or so ago from Marine Max with the intentions of doing this project much earlier... But, you know, life sometimes gets in the way!

Here's a pic of the two switches mounted... They are the two below the speedo... The pic isn't that great.... Just out of focus, but you get the idea.

I don't remember the part # on the switches... I'm sure if you went to your dealer they wouldn't have a problem matching the ones in your boat if you wanted to do the same thing!

Are they bright enough?

Yes they are:

Overall, very happy with the performance of these, and you can't beat the price!

Cheers,

Randy.

I bought the same set of lights just in blue. I bolted mine to the trim tabs as well here is a shot of them in the water

I'm installing a range of Abyss lite leds, surface mounted on my 395 next week. They arrived from the US and look "fit for purpose". Grat help from the guys at Abyss, some pics when the boat is back in the water and the lights are on :)

Here's a few choices for your underwater transom lights.... Most all of them are CRAZY expensive, but, if that's the look your going for, by all means, do it up bro! Also, these lights are MUCH LARGER than the LED's from Oznium... And, these do have to be water cooled....

Yes, there are laws that apply to the lights.... I know for sure red and blue are "A ticket waiting to happen"... Check the boating regs for your area... Looks like they differ state to state... I use my better judgment when running with mine on, and , as crazy as it sounds, have had the lights complimented on by the local authorities! But another boater, the same night, had a boat full of people, a boat full of beer and all of his LED's on (they were red), wasn't so lucky....

I spoke with him after the authorities did... They issued him a ticket for $325.00...

But the ticket wasn't for the colour of his lights. It was the lights that attaracted to authorities to the party boat.

Randy...

Make sure when buying LED lights that they are 12 through 24 volt LED's lights with a surge protector in them. They can not stand power surge. When a battery goes low on a boat it will recharge at a higher rate than 12volts eather by the alternator, the on board battery charger, or the generator and if the LED's are on they will burn out.
The less expensive ones do not have this protection built into them.

Ahhh... But the ticket WASN'T for the beer and the antics going on on the boat... It WAS for the lights! This was well over a year ago so I couldn't tell you exactly what the ticket said, but, it was, in fact, for the LED lights he was running on his boat! They were all, indeed, red, and that is what the ticket, the WHOLE ticket, was written for! I do remember it stated something to the effect of "Impersonating an emergency vessel"....

I should have followed up on my post.... A few months later I actually spoke to the officer, at the dock, about the incident. He told me that I was in violation also (which I already knew).... He then went on to say that while underway you CANNOT have blue or red lights on, on the exterior of your vessel, BUT, while anchored (stationary, not underway), the lights are fine ON.

I understand laws, rules and regulations are different everywhere you go. It's best to find out what rules apply to each of us where we normally do the most of our boating.

I have all of my blue LED's that are on the INTERIOR of my boat ran to one toggle switch.... All of my EXTERIOR blue LED's (tower speakers and under swim platform) ran to another toggle. I don't take that chance. While underway, I don't run my exterior lights AT ALL! But when posted up, stationary, anchored... I look like a UFO!

Don't want anyone to get it twisted, taken out of context. The ticket that was issued to that gentleman that night was for the color of his LED lights and the fact that he was moving, making his way to the pier. It probably didn't help that there was an underground rave going on in his boat... I spoke to him about the ticket, I saw the ticket and I spoke to the officer who wrote the ticket a few months later.... All the same story...
