This Smoking Ban Craze Has Gone Too Far!

you do? what could possibly be worse than someone off by themselves smoking a cigarette at a rest stop in the wide open?

I smoked, it took a number of years to quit but I finally did. One of the 1st things I learned as a reformed smoker was that when another smoker lit up, it either smells the absolute best and the worst after they finished. :smt101 This July I will have been quit 7 years and I still occasionally reach for a nonexistent shirt pocket for a pack every once in a while. :wow: So for all the folks who have never smoked, thank you lucky stars, for those that do, there is hope in quiting, just don't give up.

As to the rules about where you can and can't smoke....they all suck, but what are you going to do, it's just more "Change". :smt043

It's great what smokes cost these days. Makes it ever easier to see how freakin' stupid the smokers are.

 I couldn't find the one with middle finger

so now your justification of removing me of my personal freedoms is that I don't have a reason to smoke? typical liberal comment

So what's your good reason? other than you feel you have the right (which is not being argued here).
And me liberal? HA!

To say all smokers are stupid is like saying if you and the guy in the next stall tap your feet in the airport bathroom, he must be a festive individual.

you're too fat, stop eating!!! Do you know how much you cost me in insurance premiums? Not to mention your stress level... if I have to pay to take care of you, i'll be one pissed dude.

Next time you're in Iowa, stop at my house. We'll have a JR Cigars Cohiba knock-off. On my deck.

I'm a CONSERVATIVE among all these Iowa pinko commies. My friends want Canadian / Cuban style health care and think I'm nuts because -OMG - I love my AR15 so much I think I'll sleep with it.

Hello,

While I support a person's right to smoke outside, I am DAMN tired of seeing discarded butts all over the place. Smoker's have brought this on themselves in many cases/places (such as beaches) for leaving their disgusting butts all over the place.

Scott "Please disregard everything past Hello" F.

As god as my witness I thought turkeys could fly, and spotlights had to light

Your looking at the wrong butts at the beach. This is not American

At least this debate is mostly civil...unlike some others.

For those of you who believe you have the right to tell others not to smoke outdoors (and businesses not to allow smoking sections)...how do you justify that belief? Conversely, would you accept a mandate from others who believe your recreational engine exhaust is damaging the ecosystem and therefore must be eliminated?

For those who choose to smoke...should there be any restrictions? If so, how far should the restrictions extend? Do you accept that the pastime is dangerous and that there is a social cost borne by your community in excess of the taxes levied on the product? If so, how would you address those costs?

As for the cigarette butts...how do we as a community police the practice? Personally, it drives me nuts to see people flick them out of their cars...but I do not know that there is a good solution.

And Muff diving. :smt043

IMOH - You just need to be respectful to others. If you're in a closed up area, don't smoke or go outside. The outside smoking ban is just a bunch of bull. Next thing your going to have your car banned because it's exhaust is bad for you, give me a break....

Here's the funny part, smokers that say "I choose to smoke". That may be true initially, but in a very short time they are "choosing" nothing. The vast majority are powerless NOT to smoke. Manipulated by big tobacco. So powerful an addiction that even the most intelligent of them will somehow rationalize it.

Exactly, I had some crazy lady run up to me and pull an UN LITE cigarette out of my mouth, she almost got drop kicked I was so surprised, I asked her what the hell are you doing and she said your in a non smoking area.

I don’t smoke indoors or around non smokers no matter were I am, if you don’t like people smoking outside far away from everyone then don’t come walking over waving your hands in front of your face like your chocking on my smoke

What does this have to do with the OP topic?

Not sure I understand this post and I would like to. Would it be better if it were "small tobacco"? What about those that "choose" to quit? Are they equally powerless in their choices? Are they only making intelligent decisions when they choose the path you believe is best? Why would they need to rationalize their decision? Isn't just "I want to" sufficient? "I want to" works for alcohol and skydiving...why not smoking?

This may appear to be confrontational, but it really is a search to try and understand the other position (I do smoke an occasional cigar, but nothing else)

I think the problem is a lack of respect. Non-Smokers; I don't smoke around you, and I am sick and tired of your liberal aproach to thinking that you know better for me than I know for myself. We are not advocating allowing smoking on every sq. inch of the planet, just a person's right to choose whether the place he owns allows smoking or not. I think a person should choose what type of establishment he/she would like to own, and then put a sign on the front door to let everyone know.

I would like to know ANYONE'S argument for how this is not fair. If this is you, post a picture, and I will show you a tree hugging, eco-friendly, global warming believing, anti-capitalistic, big government advocating Obama supporter.
