I70's are great. A lot of configuration possibilities.

Does it boot up on an engine scan? Display fault codes? I would assume so but don't know for sure.First runs with the new vv703.
Love it and no intermittent rebooting! WIN!!!
Still playing with the configuration and I have to figure out how to add my fresh water and black water levels to the configuration.
But for sure, so far, so good.

It does indeed. Appears to be fully integrated into the power package. Recognized when I went into and out of Auto-Heading exactly as expected. Did not try skyhook. Next outing..Does it boot up on an engine scan? Display fault codes? I would assume so but don't know for sure.
You will not be able to display the NIM data on any Vessel View product in the Smartcraft protocol. Diesel View was the only device that supported. The reason is, Mercury discontinued supporting the network (CAN 3 / CAN V) the generator's data transmits on.I read through all the threads on getting gen set data on a VesselView display and they seem to mostly be related to the VV703 and/or issues on larger boats that have NIM board problems.
My project/boat is a little different and I’d like to get some feedback from anybody who may have tackled a similar one on a 44SD.
I recently updated from a SC5000 with a faded screen;

to a VesselView 502;

The Onan 9k generator has a the Smartcraft circuit board with the harness labeled gen set NIM, and the plug labeled “To Termination Resister” that has the yellow cap, which I’ve seen mentioned on other threads. All of the jumpers appear intact.

With this said…. Is getting the gen set data to display on the 502 as easy as plugging into the harness with the end resister, then into the J1939 to N2k Maretron Gateway, then with a drop cable into my NEMA backbone and configuring the 502?
Do any jumpers need to be cut? The unit has a sound shield and it’s nearly impossible to get my phone in the box where the circuit board is to get these photos, much less a hand in there to patch a cut jumper, if need be and want to get it right the first time. Thnx
You could and probably it is already done. The issue is CAN V is no longer used by the Smartcraft systems.Tom:
I have the Vessel View 1.5 units and the Smartcraft SC2.5 system which did away with the Can V network providing data to the Diesel View and Vessel View units using SC2.2. So, I don't get gen data to the VV units. However, I have the Smartcraft NIM. Eventhough it isn't being used, I believe I have the Can V wiring at the Junction boxes and VV harness. Could I simply run twisted pair from the NIM and splice into the unused Can V +/- at the junction box? Thanks.

I have noticed SOME data is exactly the same port and starboard on my 703. Making me believe it is pulling from the same source.
Yours may be doing the same…

In the VV setup set Starboard Engine to Instance 0 and Port engine to Instance 1.I have the same issue with my upgrade to a VV502. Has anybody had that problem and resolved it?
I can't answer if it is like the smartcraft sc5000 but it will show engine load as a percentage.We have 44 sedan bridge. I have updated to VesselView 7.03 . Does it show engine load like the smartcraft sc5000.
Our boat is a 2006 QSC 500’s
