Big decision made today

Glad to hear you got to the root of your problem. You're probably a better man than I am... I don't know that I would have sold feeling like I was 'pressured'. Probably one of the things I still need to learn more about in marriage. I too have thought about selling at times. The slip cost is now about $10k/year which doesn't include fuel or food at the dock. That's a lot dough to piss away in entertainment.

I am blessed and actually have both a boat and a diesel pusher. I rotate throughout the seasons in Texas. Feel free to reach out to me offline if you want to discuss further. I owned a 40' single axle Fleetwood and sold it last year. It was a great coach to figure out exactly what you do and don't want in an RV. I stepped up to a 42' Entegra last year. They weren't on the same level, so it's not fair to compare, but the Entegra is hands down an amazing coach for a production unit. For me one of the big drivers was a second bath. Consider that even if it's two of you. I fought for the toilet with my wife and child more times than I could count. The last time it happened, it drove me to literally find a new coach. Stepping up to a 42' also got me a tag axle which is a huge step up in carrying capacity and cuts down on the tail wagging and porpoising. Drive a single axle in the wind and you'll see what I mean. The longer rig also gave me a third AC unit and heated floors. It cools and heats the rig amazingly well. The insulation is also a huge step up over the old one. This rig is also a side radiator vs the rear radiator. Maintenance is a breeze compared to what it used to be. The rear radiator took two people to change the belts. I couldn't imagine doing it on the side of the road. I could go on and on. I've probably been on and looked at most RVs sub Prevost territory. Feel free to ask away. We get the best sleep on the RV. We took it on a 2 week trip this summer. From Dallas to Destin to Galveston to home. Almost 2k miles. Not a single issue with the coach sans a pocket door that came off the track and the clothes washer drain pump that decided to fail (luckily an appliance place had a pump in stock). Glad you're skipping the Thor. I'd recommend looking at Entegra and Newmar over Tiffin, but that's just my personal preference. 3 models in the Entegra line - Aspire, Anthem, and Cornerstone. Newmar has Ventana, Dutch Star, New Aire, Mountain Aire, London Aire, Essex, and King Aire (The first 3 or 4 may be the most appealing price wise). Tiffin doesn't make a bad bus. American Coach also makes a really nice bus.

Is it weird that the most impressive thing about your bus is your selection of bike on the back?? o_O

Actually, the bus is pretty baller as well. :)

Haha. Thanks. Another hobby of mine dirtbiking. It's a Sherco 300 two stroke. Best bike hands down that I've owned. French made. Lugs all day long in the woods.

Thanks, Entegra made the short list for sure. A lot going on at the moment but when the dust settles and we start searching in earnest I’ll reach out.
Great looking coach you have there. The two heads is the line in the sand for the wife too, of course she doesn’t do the cleaning though! At least there won’t be three like the Carver has!!

I remember when @douglee25 was a young lad (I think in New Jersey or PA) trying to figure things out in the world ;) in the mid 2000s when he helped me (during a work trip south) with my radio on the 330DA. You've done well my "boat friend".

I bought a Monterey 302 about 5 years ago, first boat since my divorce. GF and I had a "hiccup" and took a relationship pause. I sold the boat thinking I'd never use it on my own and because of the "challenges" we had boating together. I later regretted it and bought another 302.

She does not enjoy my toys as much as I do. It's taking me a while to realize she doesn't have to. I don't except her to like what I like. I am learning to figure out how she can "join and share" with me in my toys, what I can do if I want her to be a part of them.

Yes, that had to have been 2006/07 ish? I was on my way down to North Carolina for a project kick off. I decided to drive to give you a hand. Time flies, huh? Good times!

I've always been a fan of couples having their own time and hobbies to themselves. If they want to join, that's great. If not, no biggie. Problem with a boat/rv/fill in the blank with any expensive hobby - it's tough with these types of hobbies due to the cost. There's almost no point in doing them solo by yourself. I do enjoy guy's day on the water at Party Cove a few times during the summer, but at the end of the day, having family on the water in a large tie up when the kids are off playing together or boating to a destination area is where it's at for me.

100% agreed - I am trying to make the boat easier for her to reduce "boat couple anxiety" by doing the lines, docking, and other stuff myself. For example I was trying to teach her how to turn on/off the breakers at the panel. She could not get it. I was getting frustrated. Now, I do it myself. She is a great cleaner/organizer, and actually likes it. So I let her clean and organize the cabin and cockpit now. She takes the wheel more now, especially using auto pilot and at idle. That is a work in progress as she is very anxious then.

My wife is the same. She is "OK" with the boat but would much rather stay at the cottage on the beach. But she does enjoy the boat in small doses. We are using the boat as "home base" while our cottage is being torn down and rebuilt, and she has stayed on it a few times on her own and with the dog. I took a photo of the electrical panel switch settings when we are at the boat, and another when we are leaving the boat. She has them on her phone now and it completely took away the anxiety she had that she might be doing something wrong.

Smart, good tip

Hey, Doug. Love that Sherco as well. It grabbed my attention more than the beautiful coach! I have a KTM 450 EXC, and have been wanting a 300 2 stroke like KTM or Husky (basically the same). I shouldn't do anything as I probably only have few years of riding left due to being old, fat, and slow.

Beautiful RV.

And I understand the thought process anyone uses to get out of expensive hobbies like boating. It's a lot of money and commitment. If it is minimally enjoyed, or worse, creates strife... time to get out.

KTM makes a great bike! I had a KTM 450 before I bought the Sherco. It wasn't a good woods bike however. Like you, I'm old(er) and I need to get to work on Monday morning! I highly suggest trying a Sherco out. If you're ever local in Dallas, let me know. Tons of great places to ride. I also have a Beta 300. Another good woods ride IMO.

Wifey started strong with the 440, now it has faded in the last couple years. She rarely wants to make the 3.5hr trip to the marina so I typically go down for 3-5 days a couple times a month and hang out, work on maintenance projects and such, drink beer and eat well. Half the time I'll bring one of the CCs for some fishing. But fortunately it is not a point of contention for us. We've been together 40yrs this Nov, and I realize how fortunate I really am.
Life focus chamges and it's always good to find middle ground if possible.

I've enjoyed reading this thread. It's nice to hear someone finding an avenue to strengthen a marriage, good conversation about the investment (time, money, and emotions) that boating and other hobbies are in our lives, and to see how much so many of us guys have in common, even dirt bikes that some of us should have given up long ago. Cheers, gents.

3.5 hours! Oh I can see it now, “Honey I am going to marina”. “Have fun”. 7 hours later. “Oh you’re back”. “Yeah I forgot a wrench I need. See you later.”

We drive 3.5 hours to the lake all the time. Never had to return home for a wrench, or anything else for that matter. Lowe's, Walmart, Target and Home Depot are minutes from our condo.
