Big decision made today

I suspect you'll be looking for a 44 footer within a year... I'm sure you've found iRV2.com
We looked hard at 40, and 44 and 37. decided we would probably regret the 37 but with just the two of us and really the extra space is mostly in the master bath. We got the two foot itis out of our system with the boats, Believe me.

Boat left today! The only real feeling of regret was when I signed over the pin slip for the Achilles center console RIB. I loved cruising the marina in the RIB in the evenings visiting with marina folks. I knew it would just sit in the barn though if kept it and eventually be put up on Craigs List, so I let her go as part of the deal.
The new owner with his wife and 23 year old kid picked up the boat. I gave the NO a few pointers and off they went to Alameda. I checked in 4 hours later and they were thrilled with their new boat. I feel a huge weight off my shoulders and on to greener pastures. Thanks for the kind words of support minus the boos and hisses for quitting;)
Looking forward to a winter full of lively election debate along with keeping up with the winter projects you all share.
Cheers

Funny thing, I find myself thinking how nice it feels not trying to plan which days to try to make it down to the boat to do this or that chore or pay slip fees. My life really did revolve around that monster. I really enjoyed the experience over all and really have no regrets but certainly don’t miss it. I did the math on my fuel costs of the commute to the boat and that will pay the premium on the coach insurance!

Now that you're not worried too much about diesel prices, Let's Go Brandon! :)

Carpe, speaking of fuel, go to myopenroads.com and see if that may be something you might be interested in. At 13’-5” tall and combined length of 55’, my 5th wheel is a truck stop only fuel situation. On long trips when I need fuel while still towing, the EFS fuel card comes in handy. Your rig is probably pretty tall and assume you’ll be pulling a toad. Truck stop pump prices are pretty steep.

Thanks, I’ll look into it.

Here is the new "yacht" Funny how we never thought of going this deep on a boat but after comparing carrying costs we managed to justify buying new and at the upper end of production coaches. We will get a lot more enjoyment out of this and it will be a hell of a lot less work to keep her in top shape since I have an empty 50 by 60 barn to house her in.
Flying to LA on Friday night and will drive her up the coast on Saturday.
Curious as to what the insurance company says about experience with vehicles this size. Do you need to have a experienced driver with you for a period of time, take a driving course, get a commercial license???

Believe it or not, it's treated like a Class C personal vehicle.

With that said, some states require a Class B or A (not a CDL) license if you're over 26,001 lbs combined weight. Only difference is weight between A and B for towing. B is up to 10k trailer and A is above 10k. I got a Class B even though there's some discrepancy in my state whether you need it or not. Now I'm covered without issue in any state.

Now you know how we feel when we put our boats away for winter storage. It’s a great feeling knowing I don’t have to worry about it.. it’s not costing me anything and come spring I miss it all over again

and yes you are still a quitter :)

We're about to take a short trip on a friends new 45' bus to attend a football game in Oklahoma. I need some legal advise. Are passengers in a motorhome allowed to have an open bottle while underway? Or is it just like any other vehicle and a violation?

The agent selling me my policy wanted to know what experience I had and whether or not I had a CDL but I am not sure it affected the rates. I was surprised too that there is no additional training required for the 40 foot coach. Over 40 foot in CA you need class B or A. If the vehicle is a box truck over 26000 lbs or has air brakes, you need the CDL. My new coach has airbrakes and weighs in at 40,000 lbs. Really makes no sense. There must be one hell of a Motor Coach lobby working the capitol. Now after driving it 600 miles, it really is a nothing burger to operate. I just need to remember to lock the fridge doors before departing!

Ain't that the truth! (freezer).

My old coach I had the fridge fully stocked and went up an off kilter drive apron that torqued the lock. The door flew open and I literally lost the entire fridge on the floor!

Happens all too often. I go the extra distance to string a small bungee cord across the front of the fridge while traveling. With a trailer, you don't know it's happened until the next time you stop and get into it. By then, everything's at room temp and soaked into the carpet.

I am considering looking into installing a solenoid operated lock that activates when the coach either starts or is put into gear. I just see this as being too easy to overlook especially with the wife grabbing a last minute roadie after I make the walk thru.
