The future of EVs? Maybe not so bad?

BTW, I giggle like a school girl every time I drive this car, and I have thoroughly tested the 0-60 mph claims. They are accurate. It’s weird because you get the sensation of power, but not speed because everything is so quiet inside. You don’t really recognize that you’re going 80 mph. It’s a completely different experience if you roll the windows down, and then your brain is able to correlate the speed due to the wind noise.

This is easily the fastest car I’ve ever owned.

My hybrid truck is now hands-free drivable. BlueCruise was finally activated. It works. Will I be checking out CSR on my phone when on the interstate? Nope. I'll be ready to take over the controls as needed.

I didn’t opt for that option on the model 3, although we still can enable it. It does have autopilot, which is both cool and terrifying at the same time. You have to keep your hands on the steering wheel, but it does the driving.

That's what I've had right along and on surface roads that is what still works. The BlueCruise is interstates for the most part, I think. It operates with GPS. The adaptive cruise uses camaras to follow the lines on the road.

The new tech is getting better and better, but its still not perfect, so I will never be hands free. I like driving too much.
My Acura MDX did a strange thing last week. The emergency "slam the brakes" kicked in when it should not have. Here was the situation. Going about 50mph on a two lane highway with paved shoulder. The car ahead of me slows to turn right and pulls off on the shoulder of the road as he is approaching the turn. There is no lane there but the shoulder is wide. I slow down and I am back maybe 50 feet as he starts the turn. The road I am on is a slow left curve and there is oncoming traffic. Right at the time he is made the majority of the turn (and out of my lane completely) I am about 30 feet away, and the MDX "Brake" heads up display lights up and the car slams the brakes in order to avoid a non-existent collision. Luckily the car behind me was far enough back that he was not in danger, but he did roar past me a bit later giving me the salute. He had no idea it was the car, not me that slammed the brakes.

I guess its there to save my life, but this time, it could have had the opposite effect.

My Ford Escape with Adaptive Cruise does the same thing....

It's an adaptive cruise feature. They use a forward facing camera and/or radar to detect objects in front of them (and I'm sure angles in the steering wheel). When it came out on the 2015 F150s (I was about to order my '16 F150 at the time), that forum was flooded with guys having it SLAM on the brakes, similar to your situation. Passing a tanker truck seemed to be a major issue and caused the hard slam on the brakes. A software update fixed it.

Thankfully GM has it pretty dialed in on their SUVs....but due to the issues Ford had with it, I opted not to check that box when I ordered my '19 Ram and didn't miss it...

The adaptive cruise uses the same forward facing radar sensor, but I was not using cruise at all. This is the Acura Collision Mitigation Braking System. You can turn it off, but the next time you start the car it is turned back on (I guess the lawyers made them set it up that way)

What's weird is someone can make a left turn in front of me at a similar distance and end up in pretty much the same position as the guy making a right turn not set it off....

... It does have autopilot...
You have to keep your hands on the steering wheel
but it does the driving.

You just keep on drinking that kool aid, and pray to God you never hit my vehicle with "autopilot" engaged.

It's about as "autopilot" as I am a world class athlete!!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Better yet, pray your wife keeps it turned off and comes home safely to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the not too distant future, cars will be safer on autopilot than human drivers. Once that happens it will be mandated on every car and insurance companies will likely make non AP cars too expensive to insure

You ‘tards are drooling at the possibility, aren’t you??

you do not need to keep your hands on the wheel when the screen prompts you just touch the radio volume (left wheel ) button and your good. We have a model Y I drove on I75 today for 30 miles hands free at 85 mph until I had to exit.
I’m thinking of canceling my 2022 Bronco and getting a model 3 20mpg vs $8-$12 per 300 miles on our Tesla. Hmmmmm

our car is a better driver than most people on the road it will never “take chances”
So I hope it can avoid the people who think they know how to drive.

Nobody can afford the redundency that full on autopiloted cars will require. You'll need backups to the backups to the backups.

Personal attacks are not necessary. I enjoy driving, but I’m also not afraid of technology. Full autopilot on every car would open up a world of possibilities that we don’t currently have available. For example, the ability to form a train on the highway and travel at 130mph. Yes, count me in on that.
