Only time I ever replaced water pumps was when they leaked. A leak shows as rust stains around the oval weep holes. if the cover is scored It Can be flipped over. Never seen the internal surface scored but suppose it could happen. The main wear part is the rubber impeller, sounds like smoke to me. If it is leaking which is visible from the exterior a replacement is easier and will last longer.
Btw...whats your prop size, lol

Thanks. That’s sort of what I was thinkiNg too. But I haven’t looked inside to see if there is any scoring.

I have the stock props. Don’t recall what they are without pulling out the manual. I do need to take a little out of the to add a few rpm. But if you had 2800 loaded and now you have 2400, unless you dinged the props it’s not the props. Is your hull in good shape? How are your cutlass bearings (any binding when you spin props by hand)?

Everything good BUT for shafts covered in barnacles by time fall haulout. I think it is more of weight issue and need to reduce pitch, maybe dia too?
Given its just your generator I would replace the impeller only and see what happens. A boat can always use a spare impeller. When seals fail the weep holes are there to show it.

What prop size is everyone using? We have 22x24. While we got 2800 wot on sea trial with five people onboard, three weeks later with only two on board but full tanks and for the rest of the season we only got 2400 wot.
Told they can only be reduced to 22x22 with tuning.
What is evryone else finding on their 400?
Thanks for all input.
For us Cummins boats, the factory 22x24 is overpropped. Mine are at 22.7 pitch and I think My3sons told me his are at 22.5. 23 is the absolute max I’d have with Cummins. But for your CAT boat, I don’t have the experience.

Thank you. Any suggestions as to lowering dia to 21 and pitch to 22. I found some used props that might be better than my 22x24 and my understanding is the most one can change pitch is two inches.

Double check that with your prop shop. I called my shop to see if they can reduce 22x26 props to 23 pitch. They said they can as long as they’ve never been modified before.

Has anyone replaced all of their Thru hulls and would possibly know the sizes and quantity, i will be adding three for sinks as well and believe these are 5/8"

thanks Jamie

Have replaced thru hulls but not on my sea ray. Would be easier, less cost and more safe if sinks can drain above the water line. Some guys posted some great pics on this a few pages back.

You can find all of them and their sizes in the parts manual for your boat. They aren’t all together in one table so you’ll have to consolidate them yourself. But they are there. Do you have the parts manual?

Would anyone here have an interest in an OEM swim platform from a 2003 400DB? By this time next week I hope mine will be off my boat, laying on the ground. It’s in good shape, with no known cracks or issues. But I’m getting a new platform installed next week and would love the current one to go to a new home. I’ll post it in the for sale section, too. But thought I’d give fellow 400DB’ers the first crack at it.

Anyone know if the galley fridge has a GFI other than the breaker on the panel? Upper outlet for the microwave is working. Lower is not.

The ac outlet that the fridge wires into is on the Galley Systems GFCI circuit (at least I think it is - need to check my notes). The outlet is the one inside the sliding door to the right of the sink.

Steve, which platform did you get? When are they putting it on? I would like to see what is involved with putting it on. Greg

I ended up with the one from Florida bow thrusters. It’s a hydraulic. I didn’t want to go hydraulic, but all of the aftermarket ones I saw looked too flimsy or I didn’t like the way they attached to the transom, or they weren’t the right size. So I went with the guys that make the one that Sea Ray offered. I’ve seen it on enough other boats of the same era but I’m comfortable with it. Now I just need someone to take the old one off my hands!

I should probably know this, but I don’t. And I could probably easily figure it out through trial and error, but it’s raining. And I have the manuals, but looking at electrical diagrams on my phone can be a chore. (How’s THAT for a disclaimer? Lol)

So here’s my question:

I have a single 30 amp cord adapter. One that allows a standard extension cord to plug into the 30A AC inlet in the transform locker. If my boat was “on the hard” (it is)
and I wanted to charge my batteries (and not much else) would it matter which transom AC inlet I plug into?

Yes it does. Look at the breaker panel. The two columns of breakers are the two 30 amp legs. I don’t know which column is which of the two transom connectors. Simply trial and error test. You want to power up the left side of the panel, which has the ac converter breaker on it.

Great minds think alike. I realized the AC converter breaker was on the starboard side of the panel, But I don’t know which transom connected that corresponded to, either. Trial and error may be my only option.o_O Got to be honest, Bill. I figured you would know right off the top of your head!

Ha! Amazingly I’ve never had a situation where I needed to know. Also, factory could have wired mine on Opposite Day. Who knows if they are all the same.
