Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Looking at replacing my AC unit (original 12k btu/h Cruisair). MarinAire has 11k and 14k; They are recommending 14k since the hoses, power, drain, and pump can all be used. I like the gauges and the fact that the compressor is wrapped. I will check on the clearances. Any opinions on the MarinAire units?

Don't know much about the MarinAire brand but I changed out my AC with a Dometic DTU16 last year and could not be happier. Very easy to install. Very quiet. Cools the cabin very fast. Although my 12000 BTU unit worked, it took forever to cool the cabin on a 90 degree day. The 16000 BTU unit is so much better. Paid around $2400 for the new unit.

After sitting in storage for the winter we just launched our new to us 2003.5 and cabin smells of fuel. There are no fuel leaks, just the faint smell.

Any tricks to get the smell out. I loaded up on bounce drier sheets to spread around and frabreeze fabric spray to spray on the carpets when we leave for the week tomorrow.

Thanks in advance

U shouldn’t smell fuel at all, r u sure that’s what the smell is?

Certainly get the smell out and be positive it is gone before you head out for a week. Breathing that stale air over time will make you nauseated if nothing else. There was a post a few weeks ago that a member had a "odor of gas/fuel" in his cabin. Turned out to be some type of sealant that was used on his sump pump lid. Open all the windows, hatches, doors and put some fans in there and see if that helps. If it does and the smell returns, there is certainly something amiss. If you have any contacts at your local fire dept, most have a meter that may help you track down the source. Also, since boat is new to you and if you haven't already done so. Open all the compartments and clean n disinfect them out well. Do under the V berth where the ac is, that area can get very nasty along with the sump area under the hatch in front of the fridge. You just don't know what the PO had stored in them.

I also went with the Dometic DTU16 and it is awesome! Quiet and cools fast!

Did u get this figured out?
Not yet. I replaced the anchor solenoid and that solved a problem I was having there but the low voltage issue is still there. Since I switched to AGM batteries and my boat is 14 years old now, I am upgrading the charger/converter to the latest model that supports the AGM batteries and then I'll retest everything.

Any of you guys replace your fresh water system pump? Mine has been cycling off and on. I did manage to find a small slow leak leading to the hot water heater which I repaired with silicone, but the cycling is still happening ...albeit much less frequently. If you did replace, what did you replace with? Was thinking about something like this:

If the pump is kicking on/off, then I'd think you'd have a leak somewhere as it's loosing pressure that makes it come on. But as to the part, yes, that's the same I used. Cheaper here: https://www.freshwatersystems.com/p...erm=4582352153658504&utm_content=All Products

I've searched high and low and other than the leak I repaired, there's no other leak. It also cycles when I disconnect and cap the output. So I think it might just be time for a new pump.

Thanks for the link!

Leaks are such a PITA! I'm tracking one now that has caused my carpet in front of the aft couch to get really wet. I think it's from the shower or possibly the shower sump but I'm still digging. UGH!

Agree with all that leak is #1, however I did have same issue, there is an adjustment on the pump to tell it when pressure is good and stop pumping, don’t recall exactly, it’s a screw you turn. Can tone it down and it’ll stop if no leaks. I had bad pressure though, so yes I replaced the pump and added an accumulator and OMG what a difference
Here’s what I put in, works awesome!!!

A lot will depend on the actual TV (trim vs display) and the mount you are using and if you want it centered or not. The closer you get to the panel door the more the height off the bulkhead will come into play. I have a 32 inch installed in that area and I probably could have gone a little bigger. I choose the 32 inch for a couple of reasons. I it was larger enough to be easily viewed even from the v-berth, 2) I did not want to get to close to with the companion way or the panel access, 3) I wanted to use a slim mount without the need for through bolting (which I was able to achieve based on the light weight) and 4) I wanted a DC powered TV to eventually tie into the boat (my TV was 19V and I can install up step up regulator).

This is my install write-up here: http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php...tv-on-2004-340-sundancer-bulkhead-wall.88100/

If you look at the pictures you could probably get a couple more inches on both sides.

Back to the TV topic but related to the old galley TV. Removed it yesterday. Took the bottom self home to begin figuring out how to build a bottle holder system for the wife's Bourbon collection. For those who have removed the TV, what did you do with the two electronic boxes that I believe drive the TV? Googling shows the ISO-MAX boxes reduce HUM in an audio signal. See attached pic. Would like to remove so the opening looks cleaner. Will add some material in the back of the opening so it is solid but removable for future access. Guess I will just coil the old wiring away behind and zip-tie. Also, has anyone held onto the old TV just in case or ditched it? Once I know for sure I do not need it I will offer for free to anyone who pays shipping.

I just removed those boxes and and have them in a box of old stuff (just in case I or someone needs it for some project) and I have the TV in storage for the same reason. I just removed as much of the wiring as possible and left it behind the storage area. I had a lot more to remove from previous installations of satellite TV that I pulled out too.

You mean something like this? Keep the pull out and mount the shelf to it. I used the 4 holes already in that bottom plate. Hope it helps.
