Anyone ever convert there TV area to a bar?

It would be a shame to waste it.
Is there some sort of grommet you can use to protect the openings for the bottles?
Or, maybe use the MDF you made as a base and get matching size of starboard in the color of your choice or lucite with matching holes to lay over the top of the MDF?
If you put 1” or so blocks between the MDF and starboard or lucite to raise it you’d make the bottles more secure.
The previous owner of my boat, or someone, made a wine bottle holder out of starboard and stuffed it in an out of the way place in one of my top galley cabinets. It works great for standard size wine bottles.
One of the things on my “to do” list is to make something similar to put in another cabinet to hold my Tangueray and Single Barrel Jack Daniels bottles which we normally drink, when we drink, and 3 or 4 other cutouts to hold other specific shaped bottles that we keep aboard for guests. regular Jack Daniels, Scotch, Rum, and Vodka come to mind.

Well we'll see. Wonder if I can cap the top side with some clear lexon or something. Like 1/8" to protect it...The front I'm putting a plate on, so that will cover it up..I have some ideas. Hmmm. Oh I added some led's this morning to give a cool effect...

Looks perfect.... Don’t scrap it... Where did u put the light...

How about a smoke acrylic plastic top with the wood sides might allow for more up-lighting?

Nope..Gonna do a redo..o_O..lol. Found a great way to hold the bottles in place. Also want a flat black. The Gloss shows too much. If someone want's this when I'm done, you can have it. I'll post back with some updates.

When I replaced the TV in my 280 I used black shelving from Home Depot to make a box and a panel to mount a flat screen. It was a dead match for the interior of the cabinet. I’m sure you could find laminate strips to cover any exposed edges.

Well here's # 2. Just started it. I'm using 1/2" Oak and 3/4" Oak. Much better to work with.

Waiting for the glue to dry. Top boards aren't glued or fitted yet? Just laying there.

Good move to scrap the MDF....has no place on a boat.

I'd re-think the notion of using oak. Your interior is cherry and rather than having a contrasting wood grain, I would use real cherry ....cost is about the same as red or white oak.......and select the prettiest grain for the front, top and side pieces. Cherry is easy to work and takes a stain beautifully, but it will burn so you need to be careful with the hole saw and table saw and go slow to avoid friction. I made a wine rack for a friend who has a 460 with the same interior you have and was able to match the cherry color almost perfectly. His had t he gloss finish so the wine rack took about 10 coats of varnish to get enough finish to buff out.

You won't get cherry at your local Lowes or Home Depot, but there is a family owned company who sells UPS-shippable quantities on ebay.......and they wet the wood with a solvent to show the grain in the photos and you get what is in the pictures so it isn't buying blind.

I here you on the cherry, but the stain will be flat black with a front will have a face plate. Started the oak alreadythanks 8

Looking great what size is the hole saw your using? And can you tell me the sizes of the top boards.... Then the rest would be easy to fig out... Cant wait to see it with the stain... Think Im gonna do the same as you... with the oak...

Small hole= 3 1/4"
Large hole =3 3/4"
Used 5.5 x 1/2" oak sides
Used 5.5 x 3/4" top
Width is 15- 1/4"
Depth is 13- 3/4"
Used rubber garage seal and trimmed the inside lip. home depot.

Ty for the sizes... Gonna see if its the same for the 320.... Cant wait to see it with the stain on it....

Just started a test piece. You can see the stain that shows the grain and the one that doesn't. What I ended up trying was to use india ink as my base then ebony on top of that. You can see the difference in the black. The small piece has 3 coats of just the stain and the large piece has one coat of India and 1 coat of ebony.

Here is the new OAK one. 1 Coat India Ink and 2 coats Ebony. Also have 1 coat Matte Shellac. The stain is a nice even black. The holders are getting lined with a cool seal/gasket to hold the bottle. I'll post back with an update.
