The FAA has dropped the ball and we continue on without clear regulation of drones, so I thought it would be interesting to discuss this since so many boaters like to fly them.
What you doing the other 6 months of the year, reloading?Just my thought here...
If you can Fly it, I can shoot it down! Drone Hunting Season from the first of June till the first of Dec.... All summer long!
I can also jam its frequency and you (the operator) can catch the photos as it crashes into the ground
just my thoughts
So, are you good with the child molester perv down the street taking drone videos of your kids or grandkids over your backyard? Over the city park?Who cares? My neighbor has 5 of them. I have nothing to hide so fly away and shoot whatever picture/video you want.
Privacy was abundant when all of us were younger, now not so much. The drones can be fitted with a wide variety of surveillance attachments very inexpensively to watch others in ways the CIA could not when we were kids. Should we have to hide to feel we can have a private moment of peace in our lives? I’m betting that is one of the things our members treasure most on their boats, the tranquility of a secluded anchorage. Should some drone operator be able to “fly up to your boat and check out what you are doing in detail while anchored off?As for privacy issues...well, that's what curtains are for. I don't fly drones (quad copters), none of my airplanes have cameras, and I have no desire to operate one with a camera. Even so, this is one area (of many) where the government has no business getting into. There is no way for them to enforce any ill conceived regulations that they dreams up, and ultimately will be yet another huge waste of tax payer dollars.
We need less government, not more.
One does have "airspace rights" above your property but it is unlikely you can legally shoot down trespassing drones. They once were unlimited, meaning airspace right continued to infinity. With the advent of the airplane the courts declared that airspace, like navigable waters, was public and airspace rights were limited to such landowner owns only so much of the airspace above their property as they may reasonably use in connection with their enjoyment of the underlying land.Hmmm since I own the space above my land should be albe to shoot it down. If it going to be able to fly higher then it comes under vfr and ifr rules.
Like many of you I feel we are regulated to extreme, but we share an increasingly crowded country filled with the unthinking, self-centered, and Darwin Award winners. Common sense has left the building. and rampant technology fuels the transgressions of the idiots in our midst. For example, a drone video of the Chicago Boat Party would be awesome, it is a full on public event, but many of the drone users would think it fun to “sneak up” on anchored boaters to get candid shots of unsuspecting folks just trying to get a few rays of sun in their swimsuit they don’t want public.I can see how it can be a fun hobbie, however using one to spy on people can be intrusive. I am not for regulations on them, but with that said I am sure there are already laws about filming people intruslivly on their property. As for where I live it is legal for me to shoot on my land. A drone over my place will be fired at.
My vote is no regs, Big Brother is big enough.

Really? Little over the top are we?
I will throw this out there, I am buying one!!!! I would like to make cool boat videos. Just Relax! Oh and shooting them down will get you in trouble. Now lets get out there and have some fun make some cool videos and post them on CRS.

+1000! Unless it has a missile attached to it or you really hate your neighbor who cares. Someone flying them for fun shouldn't have to go through a bunch of red tape just to fly the damn thing. If they're used for spying, peeping or anything like that then I say shoot them down.I can't understand why you would want to destroy or mess up someone's stuff. They are used as toys just like RC heli and aircraft. The term drone is used to incite a reaction by the media. It is really just a RC heli. What are you trying to hide. The guy flying one in your hood is just having fun. Get over it.

I ain't skeered of no damn law....shoot...there's laws against everything. I'd hardly be waving the thing around so they could see me...like the movie title says "Catch Me if You Can"If spending 10 years in the federal pokey for operating a radio frequency jammer is "having fun", more power to you.

The problem I see is privacy. As I am not 'allowed' to fire a gun inside city limits, any yahoo with a couple of boat units can hover a quad-copter with an GoPro over my yard. Awesome for thieves casing the neighborhood and Law Enforcement looking for probable cause. "What do I have to hide?" Nothing right now, but if I did have something to hide (Like say a wedding taking place on my property, or a raucous bachelor party) I damn sure would not want pictures showing up on Face Book, or in the Sunday News. However, since the history of "regulation" is laughable, and it is usually just a way for me to pay more taxes for nothing, I think I might risk a couple of shotgun shells and just say "fly 'em if you got 'em"+1000! The first sign you won the discussion is when your question is attacked and not answered. So, are you good with the child molester perv down the street taking drone videos of your kids or grandkids over your backyard? Over the city park?
