#3. Gas prices
#4.Why can't gelcoat shine forever on its own?
#5. Go Fast boats, flying close by or excessively idling/revving and disturbing an otherwise beatiful day
#6. Crab Pots
#7. Spiders and their prey
#8. Engine compartments sized only for midgets
#9. Waiting to launch or re-load a boat at the ramp (which is why I upgraded to a bigger boat and a slip).
10. Anchor drag

The inexperienced dock guy who thinks you need help docking your boat. Dont get me wrong, I like to see people who are happy to attend to your dock and help as there can always be a time when you need it, but, the guy who grabs your line off your rail and pulls like hell on your bow just as i'm ready to ease or walk the boat to the dock on a very calm no wind day. I had a guy pulling so hard on the bow line that actually had to give throttle with port engine in forward and port in reverse ( I was bowing in) to keep my stern from sliding over and hitting the boat next to me! (straight inboard screws) I really appreciate when one of my dock neighbours comes over to help but knows when not to pull on my ropes but also knows in a bad wind when to cleat up the bow line if need be. I tried to very politly tell one of these guys once that pulling on a rope like that is not always helpfull and then show him the proper things to do if one needed help. I also thanked him for his help but he seemed to take offence to my suggestions.

when you're sitting out in the middle of the lake, with 1-2 miles to any shore, and this yahoo in a Ranger-type fishing boat goes flying by at 50+mph within 50' of my anchored boat.

Happened to me this afternoon. Was he trying to impress me? He didn't.

i implore this one gas dock goon EVERY TIME I GO THERE to NOT use the damn bowrail to stop or push the boat off (b\c i have one weld at the deckplate on it's last leg). and EVERY TIME he grabs the bowrail like a powerlifter.

People who fly through this one point between two locks where the channel's real narrow, on plane. The channel kind of zig zags back and forth across the river, and it just dosen't feel safe... especially when you know just outside the channel on one side is a giant mass of rock probably less than 1' underwater if you're lucky

Canadian sailboaters. The American ones always wave back. Probably because the whole time they're on the river, their Canadian brethern never wave back to them either so they need to get the waving out of their system somehow

People who throw a big wake while coming into the locks. Having a boat small enough that I can only grab on to one hold-on thingy means I'm flying all over the place until the water settles down

2. People who go out on a boat, then dont want to get wet... in JULY!
3. Idiots who bought a boat and have no idea how to operate it and never thought to ask an experienced friend to help them out the firs trips out... and yes it shows!

Starts the boat up at 12 noon to take a cruise, warms and revs the engine(s) til 12:30 then finally casts off, asphyxiating everyone downwind of him in the process.

Going to the lake during the middle of the week. Going to the middle of the lake and drop anchor to swim. No one else is in the middle of the lake, not even skiing. Guy on a bassboat is motoring to his favorite fishing spot, I guess, has the entire lake to himself. He still manages to pass within 50ft of me while on plane. WTF.

This doesn't really get my "undies in a bundle" but it does make me go "huh?"...Notice in the picture that there is nothing between our boat and Cozumel, Mexico except the whole Gulf of Mexico, but this guy has to damn near run over our anchor as he passes by. I just don't understand why people feel the need to pass an anchored boat so close.

Seriously! What the "blank" is up with this? I think this happens to us every time we are on anchor. And...the same thing seems to happen when people want to pass. Ok, you only have 1-2 miles in either direction and you can't steer another 100 yards to the port of starboard?? Is there some scientific theory that this can speak to- you know like how your Cheerios clump together in the bowl.

This should probably go under the "tricks "thread, but when we get a lot of this non-sense going on, I have an hunk or polyethelyene (ski) rope......I guess its down to about 65 ft by now. I set my anchor then tie the ski rope on the anchor line with a loose knot and let it slip down to where the anchor line enters the water. Polyethelyene line floats and it follows the current and wind so it extends itself from where it is tied on............When some idiot gets within the length of the poly line, he stands a good chance of having to stop and cut the line out of his prop or PWC impeller. I am always eager to help and while I do I make sure he understands that he would still be boating if he didn't wake the heck out of anchored boats by running too close to them.

Try it some time.........but it helps if you have some gray hair and wear glasses since most hot-shots won't attack old people.

I don't get it. If you're anchored with just a bow anchor wouldn't your pc of poly line just align itself with your own boat due to the current and wind? I suppose if the line was long enough you could snag the guys that pass to close to the stern.

No.......you can't just use one anchor in our area unless you are all alone somewhere. There is far too much traffic and it isn't unusual to anchor with a neighboring boat within 20 ft of you. so everyone uses 2 anchors (3 on a windy day) to hold your boat stationary. Unfortunately, that keeps your boat from aligning itself to the normal wave action so you take the passing wakes broadside.
