I have been using 303 for years... I think it performs so so…

 

I normally use 303 and it works well. One year I used Starbrite and did not like it....it worked well as far as waterproofing but I developed a film on the boat where the water ran off and made the gel look dirty and was difficult to clean, maybe it was the way I installed it. I don’t seem to have that with 303.

 

Im also a strict 303 guy, tried Starbrite as well did not like it left a long lasting residue or stickiness to my tops.

Do most people treat both sides or we only doing the exposed sides. In the past i always used a pump sprayer and did both sides.

I generally treat via spraying only the outside to the point that it is thoroughly wet and then allow it to dry. Also it tends to work well if the canvas is cleaned first - maybe it traps the dirt ?!?

I have used both 303 and Starbrite. Both waterproof well. The 303 is owned by Glen Raven who is the parent company of Sunbrella, hence the endorsement. I spray on the waterproofing using a small hand held garden sprayer that is pressured by a pump. This will allow for adequate and uniform spraying with out having to wear out your hand on the trigger.

This is best done on a warm windless day to prevent overspray. I also try to keep it off the eisenglass. I use a cardboard shield when spraying or in tight areas you can even "paint" it on with a brush.

Not to down play the above comment but I do find when my cover is waterproofed with either product my boat gets dirtier. I believe this is because the canvas catches the airborne dirt that is then washed off and down onto the boat when it rains.

Both my tops are off the boat, so they will be coated by off the boat. I have a few weeks to dry also. I wonder what happened with the Starbrite. Did it dry before it rained?

303, buy the gallon and use this sprayer. For years I've used the trigger spray bottle.... using this is a whole different ballgame!

The 303 can also be applied rather quickly with a paint roller.
