Steering issue

Hi Guys and Gals, I am fairly new to this forum and have a few questions. I am having an issue with steering on my 1993 370 Sundancer. At half throttle in calm waters the boat will wonder a little and there is a huge amount of play in the steering. At cruise about 2800 rpm, the boat tracks very well but the play in the steering requires constant input due to the play in steering to keep her tracking straight. At low speed in marina areas, I use forward and reverse and occasional throttle to navigate the waters... this I believe is normal?
After a great deal of inspection and having opinions of other Sea Ray owners, I have been advised to change the Steering Rack and cable. I have inspected the rudders and the props and all are in very good condition and in spec.
Has anyone delt with this issue and found a correction for this? I do believe the steering is original to the boat and could likely be the cause of my issues.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I initially thought that as well but found out it is indeed cable. I believe it to be the original rack and cable so it has to have stretched and the rack itself has to have play in it also and figure just change it out for new.
I see there are many options and brands out there. I would like to buy the best and do it once. Any one have ideas on what to look for in a rack and cable system?

Based on the Documents for your boat. It looks like Hydraulic steering was an option.
One way to tell is to look at the rudder control in the back... If it has a cylinder its hydraulic, if its a rack style its mechanical. See the attached the screenshots from the Sea Ray website. if you have hydraulic steering there will be a fill port behind your wheel on the column. It looks like a small Allen set screw or might have a cap. You remove it and use a hose and small filler tube that comes with the oil bottle. Mine was sloppy and chunky feeling after I got the boat. After filling it and running wheel back and forth it works great. Good luck... If its mechanical, there may be a bolt and nut on end of the steering rack behind the wheel under the dash to adjust play.

Anyone ever replace a cable and rack on a 1993 370 Sundancer? In the manual it provides 2 sizes. I have looked over the entire cable and not found a thing marked on it. Trust me I won't be installing it myself it was a chare and hours just trying to locate a number, not a lot of room in and around the engines and working areas of this craft.
Anyway, I am in need of the exact length for the rack and cable and preferably the best quality there is. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We just changed out to Hydraulic from cable and power assist. After changing cable, ram and PS pump, (done by a marina) never could get it better. Decided to upgrade and installed a SeaStar System. In removing the old cable, we found it made 2 very sharp turns going through the bulkhead. This was probably the problem all along. The SeaStar System is definitely a very nice system compared to what I had. Adding the Shadow Drive AP was the icing on the cake.
