Hi Folks,

Just sold our 240 'dancer and we are now looking at a 1999 290 (5 footitis hit hard shortly after buying the 240!)...

Anyone with the propane stove option have any issues with it?

Boat appears to be in good general condition, worst is some corrosion on the outdrives (freshwater boat). No AC/Heat, no genny, has GPS, 350 hrs... owner wants $39k + $6K for new trailer. Boat is in the north east... any thoughts on the price?

By the way... if anyone has a good 290 ('99 - '01) for sale I am in the market!!!

Help

I have a 2001 290 with twin 5.0 EFI's. 500 hours and the boat has been great. Had a temp problem the other day where the temp would normally be at 170 but would drop down to 100 and them back up. After changing the thermostat it still did it. After further investigation we found water in the number 4 cylinder so the dealer pulled it out for a blown head gasket? How does this happen? Is this a problem with these motors?

This was copied from another of my posts...

I ran the boat for the longest sustained period as I ever have this weekend. We cruised up to downtown Knoxville for an overnight trip for Boomsday. Anyway, it was a good run on plane and I spent almost an hour at near constant speed. I did the best I could to gather engine data so that I would have some baseline information for future troubleshooting. Here it is, in case anyone wants to bounce their data off mine to see if either one of us may have something going bad.

The engines are 5.0l MPIs in my 2008 290DA.

RPM:
Port - 3450 rpm
Stbd - 3440 rpm

Fuel Burn:
Port - 11.4 gph
Stbd - 11.0 gph

Oil Pressure:
Port - 61.4 psi
Stbd - 61.5 psi

Water Pressure:
Port - 7.7 psi
Stbd - 7.4 psi

Engine Temperatures:
Port - 156F
Stbd - 158F

Speed: 27.5 mph

Trim Tabs: Fully Up

Drive Positions: Fully Down (0)

Generator Status: Running (although I don't think any of these numbers would change if it were not running)

All of this data was gathered off of my Smartcraft gauges at the helm.

If anyone has anything different on their engines or sees a problem with any of my data, please let me know and I hope this helps out others.

One question... does Smartcraft actually use some measured fuel flow or does it just calculate fuel flows based on injector pulse rates (assuming factory installed injectors)?

Hello NRA4ever,

New member here - first post! I am considering putting a deposit on a 2006 290 and was wondering what your experience has been? This one has the twin 4.3L's...hope that is enough? Will be buying it and keeping it on Lake George only!

David
Only way to know is for you to take it out for sea trial. Personally I'd only get the 5.0's.

Okay - I was going to take her on a sea-trail anyway...I guess I was thinking the sea-trail was the final "event" before moving forward with the purchase. I probably do not want one that is even slightly underpowered as I have a large family (five kids under the age of 7) and they are only going to get heavier as they get older!

I will keep a lookout for a used late-model 290DA with the twin 5.0's!

Thanks Again - David

Thanks Cincy

Does anybody know which year the 290 Sundancer had the small couch/loveseat in salon that could convert into extra sleeping capacity? I have seen some pictures of it in the 2008 model...then some 2008's without it? Perhaps it was an option?

I am searching for a 290 Sundancer that can sleep my five kids for an overnight from time to time (oldest just turned 7, and youngest are 22 month old twins!). BTW, it must have twin 5.0's! THANKS!

It was an option in 2006 and 2007 but I've only seen a couple with it. Not even sure it actually converted to sleeping area in those years. 2008 in pretty sure they made more common and it did convert to sleeping area but it's a short space. Not much more than an 8 year old will fit.

5 kids . . I think you need a 340! ;)

I agree with Bill. I sold my 290DA. It was very tight for my wife and two kids (12 & 18). 5 Kids??? Time for a house boat! :>)
