Cooking below is a pain. Tight on the 240 and no AC makes it too warm.
I bought one of these butane stoves on amazon for about $20 and works great. We use it up top, on the beach, anywhere.

Good we all agree that the stove is not a good option.

I am ordering a camper canvas on my new 240. Is it worth paying $800 for a Cockpit Cover? The snaps are going to be installed for the camper anyway and can be used for the cockpit cover I guess :smt017

Has anyone bought an add on camper? I have the bimini and it is snapped for the camper but the camper canvas did not come with my boat. I priced one from MM for $2000. Has anyone bought a camper or fastback for a reasonable price? If so where can I get one. I have contacted Great Lakes canvas and not heard back yet.

I bought my old 240 with the camper canvas and hated it. It took so long to put back on the boat at the end of the day.
I bought a cockpit cover for it and loved it. Covered the boat in less than 10 minutes. So much nicer on a hot summer day.

No we don't all agree on the cooktop, but yes the Cockpit cover is a good idea. It's nice to have to quickly cover up.
Mine, custom made was $600. I still need to bring it back and have the guy resew(@ n/c) some velco slots in it to make it easy to install around the bimini bows. I think they came that way from the factory, but was an oversight making mine. It's really nicely made though and I thought the prive was right.

Call Great Lakes, they're faster and really responsive on the phone.

I like the camper. It does take a bit to get the routine to get it up and put away, but it sure makes it nice inside when up.

Thank you gredmer for sharing your thoughts. I needed the camper just to get the extended bimini top.

Sorry for generalizing on the cooktop and thanks for sharing your experience with the Cockpit cover

I own both, (which probably most people do). My boat is slipped for the summer. If it rained during the day while on my boat, which it has a lot this year, I would have my camper top up.
At the end of the day and I'm going home, I'll leave it up. Why go through the hassle of taking it down, the glass is wet, just to put the cockpit cover on? I do notice though, that when I do use my cockpit cover, I get less water in the boat from rain, and a whole lot less dead bugs when I come back in a week!

For me: putting up Bimini, glass, and back cover, under 10 min. (I have snaps on glass, NO rubber tracking!)
Putting up cockpit cover, less than 5 min.
Having BOTH, cockpit cover and camper top pkg.....Priceless!

It's no biggie. I thought the same thing you did and was adamant that I would not use it either. Then we decided to just cook eggs. I was pleased and the flame is very clean burning. Anyway I was surprised that I would like it.

Best of luck on the cockpit cover, I think it's nice to have on and protect the boat so the full canvas isn't getting as much UV damage.

When I had my 240 I purchased a mooring cover and used that instead of the canvas or the cockpit cover. I just removed the rear bimini pole and folded the bimini down then rolled the mooring cover from bow to stern which took aprox. a minute with me on one side and the wife on the other. A bungee cord on each rear corner to secure it and it was done. I wish I could use this method on my 280 because we got really used to not having to deal with all the snaps and the boat stayed cleaner since the bow was also covered. I also did the same thing on my 225 weekender. Where you will notice the most difference is when you unroll the mooring cover the following week, the boat is as clean as when you left it!

I like your idea the best and that what I plan to do. My 240da will be on trailer and should be easy to cover with helping hands. In fact that is the case with my Seadoo 150 speedster, even the jet is covered.

Absolutely!!! Buy both you will save a lot of time when you're storing the boat on a trailer. The camper is awesome when you want to stay on the hook and cool off. The extra Bimini on the back adds a nice shade for the seats in the back. As stated earlier, you don't have to "lean forward" if you want to seat and cover the whole cockpit.

My 240 came with the camper option and I bought the cockpit cover from Marine Max (which incidentally ordered it from Great Lakes Boat Tops!) Great quality and actual OEM covers.

Good luck with the new boat.

P.S. I guess you don't have to worry about the price of gas over at the UAE!!!!

Thank you for the advice and wish you all the best

Gas price at the UAE is $1.70 a gallon which is cheap compare to the US but it is very expensive compare to Saudi Arabia

Yesterday I told the dealer to add Cockpit cover and today I went there and he showed me the email from the factory telling him that the cover is included with the Camper Package and I don't need to pay extra :smt001 and also due to one prior order cancellation they will start working on my boat earlier  and will give me the vacuflush that I didn't order for free :smt043 but they choose different colors for the wood and interior (I guess these were on the canceled job). Also I was told that option of a bow ladder which they offered for around $1000 will not be possible and will deduct that cost.

Cool, tell them to fill it full of Petrol before you pick it (also included) and you'll be a happy Camper

Generator Question ?

The dealer promised to install a generator on my 240DA (if it fits) and without labor cost. But now that the factory decided to install a Vacuflush with holding tank for free. Would there be any space left to install a westerbeke 3.0kw? or should I forget about the deal and use the portable generator (2000w) that I already own?

The generator is a special order that takes 60 days and not sure of any optional items I may need to order. I can not decide on this without your :smt100
