We are pleased to announce an added benefit to Gold and Platinum level memberships. “Ask the Captains” is now available in the Club Level. Long-time clubsearay.com members Capt.’s Rusty Higgins and Frank Webster have joined forces and their combined 65 years of Sea Ray experience and will be available to answer your questions and help you solve your boat problems. As time permits, articles on various boating topics will be added to the new section.

Rusty and Frank have both become legends on CSR offering sound advice, and helping solve difficult problems with our user's Sea Ray boats. They'll still bop around in the general forums as they always have, but with their added time in retirement they wanted a section where they could engage with members in a more formal format without the noise that can sometimes come along with public discussions.

I am very thankful they have chosen CSR's platform to do this. If you have some technical questions you think they can help with, please visit their section in the Club Level. Gold and Platinum Sponsorship is required. Sign up here - http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?account/upgrades

We are happy that Jim and BOE are interested in expanding our participation in clubsearay.com through the “Ask the Captain’s” section in the Club Level

This doesn’t mean we are leaving the regular CSR forum; we are still here. It will, however give us the ability give you more in depth answers and discussion on the subjects that are important to you. A side advantage of “Ask the Captains” is the ability to control privacy since only Gold and Platinum members will have access to the discussions. On issues that are particularly sensitive like shopping for, negotiating for, contracting for and purchasing a new-to-you Sea Ray, you can ask us or we will initiate taking your question or discussion to the Private Message system or email if you want even more privacy.

We are looking forward to having fun with a different approach to boating forums. Come join us!

The permissions for access are already in place so you should have immediate access unless you just upgraded your membership. In that case, sometime Monday you should have access. Try clicking "forums" at the top left of the page then in the top section, "Club Level" we are the bottom section.

Don’t worry Mike, you weekly post count record is safe.
MM will likely repost everything over to the regular CSR forum so he can keep his personal goal alive. Or at least post on the regular CSR that something has been added to the new club access portal.

Anyway, I look forward to following the sage advice and input of 2 of the best sources on this forum! Thanks to you both!

I personally think this site is worth 1 tenth of a boat buck even without the "Ask a Captain" thread. It has saved me well over $100.00 and I got a t-shirt and a nice burgee. I was a Platinum sponsor before "Ask a Captain" and I'm going to continue to be one because of the site itself. I don't know if BOE makes a profit from the site or not and don't really care. It's worth the hundred to me so I donate. JMHO

I have to think this site has been very good to BOE and Jim. There are many advertisers and he gets to promote his store, win win. BOE has some great deals and many members here get to take advantage of those sales. I hope, I have been able to help some people with answers to questions, and I know I have received a lot of help here, but that's what groups like this were for. As for me, I think I will bow out of the group for awhile. I find it insulting that Frank and our very own Mr Sea Ray thought this was a good idea. It kinda looks like there are many others that feel the same.

I don't take phone calls from everyone, simply because there is not enough time in a day.....I'll call anyone of you, if not to just talk boating.

Joe- I not only know your '99 Dancer, but probably drove it during its seatrial run. There are things on that 400DA that have not been complicated since. I can talk over many adult beverages about your boat. Have also been to MacRay more than once. Years ago got a personal tour of the new kitchen by Bill Mac. And the first time I ever saw a condo boathouses with bubblers to keep the boat in the water, underneath a complete unit. There was snow on the ground and I still slept on a 420 Aft Cabin in the water. I am Florida boy so 85 degree tile is our flooring, and this was not 85, but way cool experience.

Blueone- I know I have driven yours. You have one of the first 420's and with mechanical 6CTA's. That boat changed model name (440DA) and engines, your 6CTA, then the 480CE, and last install were the QSC. Many folks will tell you mechanical's are dang near bullet proof and I tend to agree. Nice boat, nice hull shape.

Ezsteps- Tell you what's coming up....me. I am bringing a boat up for my buddy Pete Beauregard over at Colony Marine. I am sure I will end up at Grosse Point Club or if he can squeeze a big one in behind the restaurant. I know it's not MacRay Harbor but it's damn close. I leave from South Florida on the 10th, so Lord only knows an eta. What leg of the journey do I need you at?

Don't have it in me to talk to everyone like this fella's....but I do so enjoy it !

Capt’n,

Purchased our Sea Ray from Colony Marine. Had an issue about 8 years after purchase and Mr. Beauregard stepped up and took care of it. First class operation.

If your trip to St Clair Shores takes you through the islands in the West end of Lake Erie and you have time give us a shout. Would love to take you to dinner to enjoy some fresh Lake Erie perch or walleye! Not sure what size boat your running, but I have up to 90 feet of dock space in West Harbor. Neighbors might freak out if they see something that big! Water levels are at near record highs, so that won’t be an issue.

Safe travels!

I've spoken with Captain Rusty several times over the past few years in regards to our Sea Rays. Recently I had an issue and Rusty called me on Memorial day. We talked for about an hour on what I need to look for and I was able to repair. The extensive knowledge and experience is well worth the sponsorship. As said above, I always sponsored even before I had discussions with Rusty. The information on this site is invaluable.

Hello Captain Rusty,

My name is Ed from Rochester, NY you have helped me in the past with some problems with my 2007 280 Sundancer twin 4.3 Mercs. I am having a problem again. Everything seems to point to fuel tank anti siphon valves, but i cannot find a part number I contacted Sea Ray customer support and they could not help me. Any ideas?

Dang I wish I would have noticed this post before it was to late. You are probably long gone from this area by now. If I would have seen this earlier Capt. I would have invited you back to the seat you sat in many years ago and bought all the adult beverages during the chat. Hope you had a great trip up. I'm going to have to pay closer attention from now on.

I just happened across the responses here. Did not know anybody was unhappy with the Frank & Rusty Section. I am not sure what there is to be unhappy about. Nothing on the forum has changed. No access has changed. You can still ask Rusty or Frank whatever you want, anywhere on this forum you want. They wanted a more private section to help people with more private matters. Negotiating with brokers, problems that people don't want public. Etc. So it's in a private section. I think Rusty and Frank will be a little more open with their information in this new section as it won't be scrutinized so much.

MacRay really is a unique property! I've heard rumors that for the first few winters, the small buildings in the center of the property (3A & 3B) were bubbled instead of heated. Otherwise though, the bubblers are only there to keep ice away from the building perimeters. All of the boathouse areas are fitted with radiant heat. Indoor air temps in winter range from 44º-65º or so. (the HOA buildings tend to be warmer than the marina-owned buildings, since they control their own t-stats). The radiant heat keeps the inside water from freezing, but now and then we've seen severe temps that have caused some ice crystals to form.

Aside from being a unique marina, MacRay is particularly relevant on CSR. Even some members at MacRay assume that it's someone's surname (and mis-pronounce it as McKray). Mac is part of co-founder and Sea Ray dealer Bill's name, and Ray was Connie Ray - the founder of Sea Ray.
