Delta vs DTX Anchor

Trying to understand the practical difference between these 2 anchors by Lewmar.

I boat primarily on the south shore of Long Island and the bottom of the Great South Bay is basically mud/muck. My current anchor is a 60lb delta style plow that is galvanized. It holds great but looks like crap on the bow.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these?

Tks!

From the Lewmar description (emphasis added):
Delta: Delta® anchor has Lloyd's Register General Approval of an Anchor Design as a High Holding Power anchor and is specified as the primary anchor used by numerous National Lifeboat organisations.

DTX: ...fills the gap between the existing galvanised and stainless Delta® anchors, allowing boat owners and builders to specify a stainless steel anchor for a significantly reduced outlay. Ordinary Holding Power certified

Basically it's for someone that values bling over performance. IMO, an anchor is a piece of critical safety gear that meant to be used in muck, sand, and mud. If you have to choose between shiny stainless and performance, the prudent captain would choose performance. You can always hit a scraped up galvanized anchor with some gold galvanizing spray.

View attachment 97338 We had a Delta on the Tiara. Great anchor. It is guaranteed against breakage for life. The other is guaranteed against breakage for three years. So maybe a quality difference in the materials used to manufacture it?

Hi Dave,

I go by the the 470DA on the end of “C” dock every time I leave the marina and admire their stainless anchor. A stainless Delta anchor would look good on your boat!

The SR option for SS is P/N 508739 and for all chain P/N 225060. The anchor is a plow style; I suspect a Lewmar Delta.
I have these options. I will say the polished SS anchor is a breeze to keep clean.
I wouldn't put too much into the blather about bending a SS anchor; if you bend it you deserve to have a bent anchor because you tried. The stainless in either anchor you are considering is 300 series so from a material aspect I wouldn't worry too much. The material thickness and width for the shank is what I'd me most interested in.
Don't forget to replace the swivel with an S2 Mantus swivel...
BTW if one is smart enough to bend a stainless anchor the stainless can be bent back without loss of strength; can't do that with carbon steel.

Thanks @41Stinger
That's interesting and good info on SR using them. I sent an email to lewmar asking the same question. Waiting on their response as well. I do seem to think that the DTX will more than work for my needs. But at the end of the day one boat Buck more for safety isn't the end of the Earth.

Is there no warranty against bending?

For completeness, I just got the following response from Lewmar:
The Delta and DTX are almost similar with 2 exceptions: the type of stainless steel they are constructed with, Delta being a manganese stainless and DTX being 316 stainless, and the warranty, DTX is around 3 years whereas Delta is lifetime.

I think they meant to say almost identical above

Going for the less expensive bling. I'm replacing all the anchor tackle before launch and I'm going to replace the crappy looking (but fully functional) Kodiak with the 35 lb Lewmar DTX. Going with a West Marine branded rope and chain combo and a Mantus swivel. I think the DTX here on Lake St Clair will be just fine with my limited anchoring.

I replaced mine rode with 125' of chain with 150' of 3 strand when I bought the boat but replaced my swivel with the Mantus last year and have been very happy with it.

I just switched out all my anchor tackle as well. Anchor to chain to rope 3 strand nylon braided to chain and an S2 Mantus swivel. I believe all original and it appears PO reversed the line at some point to get the most out of it. The line was pretty stiff and creating issues with windlass when retrieving.
Hopefully no more issues and a piece of mind to boot.:)

Anchor arrived. Yay! It sure will look purty on the bow. View attachment 142038
Shaps,

I have been kicking tires on replacing my anchor and was checking in to see if you ever swapped yours out for a staiinless? Our factory anchor is 60 lb galvanized and on the newer 510 DA's they went with the 55lb DTX. However, the 510 is skinnier than ours and it might way less. So, I was reluctant on going to a lighter anchor even though it's only 5 lbs.

Anyways, just checking to see if you ended up pulling the trigger on a polished anchor? If so, what kind and are you happy with it? Does it hold? What else did you have to replace? Do you have any pics? I switched from galvanized to polished on my previous Sea Ray and it was just "plug and play" so to say.

I got a quote from Southcoast Marine the other day on a 60lb and it seemed a bit pricey. The part number #508739 they referenced is what is in our manual.

If there is a cheaper option, that is a viable option, I am all ears.

Good morning,

Thanks so much for reaching out! Please see part information below for the polished stainless-steel anchor.

Part #: 508739
Desc: ANCHOR, 60LB POLISHED SS PLOW
Lead Time: 4-6 weeks
Current Price: $2795.53

I would highly advise speaking with Searay to see if this specific part number will fit your rollers. We manufacture everything to order so once an order is placed, we will not be able to cancel or refund.

There is a MarineNow AISI 66lb on Amazon for $999. But, I am leary because it says it holds up to 50 ft and have never heard of it.

I am all ears and open to suggestions.
