A tip for all of you who have "bigger" boats. Ask your insurance company if they offer "yacht policies" in addition to "boat policies". The diff in coverage is amazing and for not a huge increase in cost.
I have coverage through Travelers and have a yacht policy. In the time I've had Beachcomber (10 years) they have covered:
-repairs to stamoid bimini on bridge after a wind storm that caught us on the water. About $5k
-repairs needed after a runaway starter on stbd engine. Replaced started, new wiring to both helms, new gauges to both helms, total cost a bit over $15k.
-repairs to a transmission after it blew up and would not come out of forward gear. Repairs about $12k.
-replacement of bridge radar and gps after a lightening strike close to the boat that blew them out. They were both the original equipment (the old green screen radar) and Travelers replaced the radar, antenna and new 11" plotter, all new Raymarine. Cost a bit north of $12k that included two techs coming here from Portland to do the installation. They spent two days doing the work and billed Travelers for their mileage, meals and hotel. No complaint from Travelers.
I think Travelers will be glad when Beachcomber sells.
