As you begin this project keep this in mind. Test the VHF for interference after each type of bulb replacement.

I just put 33 of these in my cabin lights.
Ceiling and reading lights. They fit fine
And brightened the cabin up a bunch.

 

The types of lamps on our boats can be so variable depending on year, location, etc. When I started my conversion process I grabbed one of each type of lamp and went to West Marine to confirm which ones I had. Then I bought them all from Amazon. I'm a very visual person

West Marine gets plenty of my money so I didn't feel guilty not buying from them in this case...

 

The bulbs in this picture is what was in my 390my. The disc type LEDs replaced them no problem. The way they are made it directs the light down and thru the lense.

Are the LEDs dimmable like the OEM halogens?

 

No sure, my cabin lights are not on dim able switches. Marine beam could answer that

 

The strip lights linked below are dimmable. I've never had any issue with FM reception with any of the cheapo LED's I've sourced from Amazon. Dimmable or otherwise...

I added some strip lighting and courtesy lights along with some task lighting in the galley. I did all my shopping at superbrightled.com. No interference to speak of. I do not use a dimmer.

 

I have done half the boat and it’s nice to know you’re not using a lot of energy. The huge savings is our home, we have converted every light to LED and it makes a significant difference in the electric bill every month.

I cannot figure out how to post pictures right. However our boat is now all led except the ER. That will be next, we love
It. Our home is also about all LED.

 

This is the second boat that I have changed all the cabin and cockpit courtesy light on. Got all of them on Amazon for both boats.
Never had any interference at all on either boat.
Never swapped out any gauge lights to LED so couldn’t swear you wouldn’t get interference from gauge lights that might be in close proximity.
Never worried about swapping gauge or running lights to LED because the motors are always running when they are on anyway.
The only incandescent bulb that burns when the motors are off is the anchor light and for the number of overnights we do a year on the hook I’m not worried about it.
