The name should be centered on the transom. The port should be smaller, also centered and a different color to distinguish the 2.

The name should have classy italicized script letters, the port should be block letters.

Use port and state, leave out the township - its too busy.

That's simply my opinion, and its the way all, of my boats have been lettered.
Can't leave out Township. Harrison, MI is a little town in the north part of the state. Harrison Township is a city on Lake St Clair.

If your boat is Documented, you have to have hailing port with 3” tall letters/numbers. Not sure of rule if only registered.
Yep, documented. The reason for the redo next week. Harrison Township, MI was too small on the pictures above.

For sure the name is set. But actually I can't legally use either pictures as they show. I'll post up the final next week. I'm going to have him place Belle Maer Harbor smaller under Two Beers between the handles and shorten Harrison Township, MI to Harrison Twp, MI and move it to the right under 390.

Man I broke all the rules. I'm surprised you guys let me hang around here.

Ha ha, it looks fine....as long as you're not documented. I will need to find a place to fly the flag. I don't think the PO ever flew one.

I'm not documented. After suffering through getting this boat "undocumented" when I bought it I swore to never visit Canada...never get a boat documented! ha.

I can end up in Canada pretty quickly. I wasn't going to document then decided I might as well. The PO had documented it but also kept the Michigan title. So it was messed up. I still haven't gotten the certificate but when I research the # it now shows my name so it should show up soon. Plus, I don't have stick the "MC" #'s on it.

If documented all of the lettering has to be at least 4 inches.
From USCG:
  • Characters must be at least three (3) inches in height.
  • Characters must be of contrasting color to color of the boat.
Note: if the background is multicolored or patterned, a block out area of a single color may be required to facilitate readability.

That’s funny. I had the very same. Bought the boat, it was documented AND titled in Wisconsin. Which is allegedly impossible. Took 3+ months before I could register it in MI. Way too much govt and bank involvement on both sides. Pure pain.
