I dont have a trailer, and the marina only allows us to keep the boat in the water for 8 months out of the year.

I wanted to buy a 29, but the wife said it was too big.

For now this boat fits our needs.

I do not really have any negatives. I love it. I have had about 10 different boats over the years, and I really don't have anything bad to say. Plenty of room for the size. Good engine access. Fully loaded. Comfortable and very stable in rough water. You can trailer it if you need too. etc etc...... Carries twice as much fuel as a 290 Sundancer and is wider for a 290. Anything else?

had a custom camper back done on mine, works nice for weekends aboard. Better for entertaining. Bimini front to back is nice when cruising and not fishing.

This was my first Sea Ray also. I have owned 1 Wellcraft runabout, and 2 Grady Whites, a 89 19' bow rider, and a 01 22' walkaround.

My wife and i decided to move into a more pleasure style boat (creature comforts) and still let me have the ability to fish. The larger Gradys were too much money. Besides the Sea Ray is laid out very nice.

I keep the boat at Wantagh Pk for the season. I live in Levittown and it only takes 10 mins to get down to the marina.

I keep the boat at my house for the winter.

I had cabin feaver the day after the boat was shrinked wrapped.

78 days to go..

I started a thread that asks this question, but had no hits, so I'll try it here...Can any of you 270 owners with 6.2 Seacores enlightne me on your experience. I am wondering about what kind of range I might expect and how the boat handles rough water, and how well it comes up on plane.

She is very seaworthy, but you can get sprayed a bit in rough seas, it doesn't have a carolina flare. Takes a while to get on plane. I installed a hydrofoil and it made a difference in stability (less jacking with the trim), it gets on plane quicker, and stays on plane at slower speeds. http://www.boatingmag.com/27/sea-ray-270-amberjack this article has a nice chart of fuel burn, speed. Best cruise is 4000 rpm where you get 1.9 mpg traveling 28 mph.

Like most searays bigger tanks would be nice. If you are careful, you will get about 200 miles on a tank. it will not get you far offshore before you have to come back.

Keep an eye out for water in the sump under the waste basket. It can lead to wet carpet. Several reasons for the problem, do a search for 270 AJ and wet carpet on this site and you will see what I mean.

My problem was leaking AC condensation pan, later seal around radar arch attachment points.

Thanks sanchita for the info. I have used a hydrofoil on a smaller boat and liked the improvement for that boat. I hadn't thought about it with this one. Most of the reefs we will go to are within 50 miles off shore, so we shouldn't be limited by the range of this boat. I like cutting across the bays at 40 - 50 mph in my bay boat (on good days). I'll have to get use to the cruising speed, but that is what I had expected. I had read the reviews, but wanted to hear from actual owners. Thanks again.

the 21 degree deadrise is good for slicing the waves, but that and a narrow beam means you will need to be working the trim more than you may like. Especially if the crew moves about. I was considering putting in auto leveling trim system, but after the hydrofoil, I have taken a wait and see approach.

With the bravo III counter rotating props torque isn't an issue. She is very maneuverable, you can almost spin her around in about 1.2 boat lengths.

I had a custom camper back made so it is better for entertaining, spending weekends on it, plus the extended bimini offers good shade in the hot summer. I do take it and the frame off for serious fishing.

I ran all day at this speed from Charleston, SC to Hilton Head via IC can say 1.9 mpg was realized.


I use very little trim (one on smartcraft gauge) and actually cruise around 3.7k. I enjoy the deep vee in heavy chop, feels solid and is predictible.

i have the aj with the storage compartment instead of a mid cabin. it is big about 8.5 ft wide, 4 ft front to back and 4 ft deep. it can store a lot of stuff in there
