My 270 SLX has the 6.2 320 HP w/ a BIII so I can't compare apples to apples. My engine had a problem holding compression so it is now in the process of getting replaced. With the "bad" engine, my top speed was 45 - 46 mph or so. I don't expect much more than that when I get the new engine. Maybe 48 tops.

I had a 270SD with the 425hp. The boat is very close in weight, etc to your 270SLX. When you get the correct drive put on you should see mid to upper 50's.

According to Mercury, the 2.2 ratio on your engine is the optional high altitude gear ratio which is also the same ratio they offer as standard on the 6.2 MPI. The 3 ratios they show for your engine are 1.81 standard, 2.0 optional, 2.2 high altitude. On the 6.2 MPI, the ratios are 2.2 standard, 2.0 optional, 2.43 high altitude.

The prop sounds right as the 350 MPI comes with a 22 pitch, the 6.2 MPI comes with a 24 pitch, and the 496 comes with the 26 pitch.

I have a similar setup, the difference being we have the 496 Mag not the HO. We have 26 pitch props and 2/1 drive ratio. I've only put about an hour on the boat, and only about a minute WOT. It's been in the shop ever since:smt089. We got to about 51 on the gps. I expect 53 - 55 when I trim it out. Problem is that you can watch the fuel gauge go down at WOT. The boat cruises very nicely just under 3,000 RPM at about 30 on the gps:thumbsup:.

Highslice, what has your boat in the shop?

BBCamero427, are you getting the correct outdrive installed from the dealer? Or are you stuck with the higher gear ratio? If so, I know there are some decent 28P props available on ebay that will help a little, but I"m not sure if you can get anything larger than 28P for the B3 outdrive.....

My 260 Sundeck with the 496 SO came with 24P props, which I'm promptly replacing with cupped 26P props. The 24P props shoot the boat out of the water like Britney Spears headed to family court, but quickly gets to the point of over revving the engine, so larger props were in order for me.

From what i understand 26P cupped props perform like 27P props, that should help me a decent amount.....

Not looking forward to watching the gas guage go down at WOT, but hey, I've gotta pay to play right?

The boat had some serious delivery issues:smt013. MM has had the boat trying to make it right, which I am confident they will:thumbsup:.

I can only think of 4 or 5 times during the 3 1/2 years we had our 240 that we ran at WOT for any period of time, other than gettinig out of the hole pulling a skier. A buddy of mine just put a Chaparrel 276 with a Volvo 8.1 duoprop in our marina. Guess I might spend a little more time at WOT racing him:grin:. In general though, my kids demand time behind the boat on something. This year it will be a wakeboard, so it will be slow going:smt009.

Bush- it's best to start a new thread, rather than "hijacking".

But, real quick - what engine? bottom paint? props in good shape? are you trimming it out?

If you decide to re-post, list more specs on your boat and give the answers to the above questions. It'll be a good starting point.
