Assuming it's a Kohler they have known carburetor/choke issues. Check out You Tube.

Having issues off the hook , charging batteries with generator , generator runs fine no load and then generator backfires and stuggles to charge house bank after batteries have been utilized, magnum lcd screen says its drawing 48.5 amps and the amperage does go down after a while of charging and it will stop backfiring but think its an issue with generator? genny should ramp up?
I have a magnum inverter system , i have a 6 - 6v agm bank house batteries , all new batteries last year , any thoughts

I assume the magnum is charging at 48.5A DC which is roughly 5A AC draw.

What else are you powering...total AC load might be too high. Turn off everything but inverter/charger and try that...or turn off inverter/charger and load up genny...you can eliminate if it's the Magnum or generator issue

Those kohler 5kw gen sets are known for eating spark plugs. Probably has NGK plugs in it now - replace those with Autolite 66 spark plugs and it will solve the issue -

 

My 5e is running a gew minutes and shutting down. Seem to recall new plugs fixed the issue a few years ago. the oil level is above the hash marks on the 'H'

could high oil level be doing this also? high oil pressure when its heated up?

 

I had that issue before and it was low oil pressure would have it shut down

 

Yes, my question was about high oil pressure. Turns out it was air locked. I bled the exchanger and topped off fluid and she ran for 30 mins no problem.
