Newbie to the forum.
I recently purchased this unit and noticed a deadspot in throttle response when I took it out for the first time.
My first thought was "throttle cable adjustment". (I'm no mechanic, so bear with me) So got into the engine compartment, took the flame arrestor off to expose the throttlebody. I then moved the throttle to see how things mechanically responded. Indeed, I had to nearly fully engage the throttle before the throttle valve began to open.
I noticed also, there is a small cable connected to the throttlebody end of the throttle cable. This mysterious little cable leads to a rotary like switch at the back of the engine, and the cable wraps around the rotary. The switch appears to have a heat sinc and electric wires that lead to parts unknown

Anyhow, it was actually this cable that was very slack. As I turned the rotary switch, it took the slack out of the cable, which enabled the throttle valve to respond in proportion to how far I opened the throttle.
The mechical throttle response is fine now, but Im left wondering if what I did was the right answer to the problem, what this cable/switch combo is called, and what its purpose is.
I couldn't find it in any manual or video for Sea Ray or Mercruiser.
Also, I think there's potential for the rotary dial to spin, which would cause the slack issue again. While it seems to click as I turn it, here's no "locking" position for it.
Please advise.
