Zyrex bottom coatings

Thanks for the info......I'll definitely keep those mixing ratios in mind.

" If the temp is between 50 to 60 degrees I think that is the best time to paint "

At the rate things are going around here....it'll be FREAKIN' June before that happens. I'm not amused. :-(

Headed to the boat this afternoon to finish the bottom providing it doesn't start raining again. Two things: I couldn't believe the touch already. Smooth. Not totally where it will be but smooth. I am more than ever convinced that this was a good idea and one that will last a long time. The other thing - it still smells. I got out of my car yesterday and the air was permeated with this smell of paint but not your typical paint. Wow! I'll let you know how the inside of the boat smells tonight. My wife already said, it better go away once you splash it.

The smell will go away. No smell on my boat. Wait to feel/see that paint when it gets 3 days to dry!!!!!

The excuse I use with the admiral now is that I have to go take the boat out to clean the bottom. :) This is much more favorable to boating much more often, however, I think she is starting to catch-on to my diabolical plan.

Well Coat number 2 is on the boat and in the book. Coat 2 went on a lot easier than coat 1. I am really liking the look and how it dries. I really can't wait until the last coat is on. No, seriously I can't wait. Really, I can't wait.

good to know about the smell. That was some strong stuff. Surprisingly enough there was no smell in the boat. I thought for sure there would be.

Born in White Plains (Westchester County) and went to Roxbury (Delaware County) when I was in the third grade. My brother and I were in a foster home, lived on a 600 acre farm with all the animals that come with a farm. I know where Duanesburg is. I think we used to go through there on our way to Albany.

OV - thats right on the tape. I pull after each painting. I am going to try a different tape on the next painting. I think my father-in-law called it Frog tape?

Went to the marina today for a work party. Then checked the boat. Getting slicker every coat. Still not smoothie smooth but getting there.
I have some pics to post once I figure out how to do it.

You need to host the pictures at a place like photobucket or onfinite. Then you paste the image link in your post.

Actually, on this forum, you don't need to host them.
When making a message, you click the little Picture icon (to the right of the little "earth with paperclip" icon) and it will let you browse to whatever location you want on your PC. So no middleman upload/hosting required.

True. I still prefer to host them elsewhere because there's a limit to how many pictures the server here will let you store/upload.

"I'll try tonight when I get in from painting coat #3. "

Oh yeah...thanks alot...rub it in why don't ya? LOL LOL

I still haven't even got to the sanding of my bottom......and the forecast for the next 3-4 days is looking really horrible. DAMN!!

I'm jealous SRbio....wish I was at the 3rd coat stage as you are. Wish I was at the 1st coat stage. "sigh"

Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Ok, if this works these are the pics of the bottom after the sand blast. Ok the last two pics are from last fall. Don't ask me how they got posted I am still not sure how the first few got posted. Either way thats the bottom.

OV - Your time is coming.

On this afternoon's paint job I only mixed a quart. Did the whole bottom. I started at 4:30 and finished at 6:30. Had two beers between 6:45 and 7:15. It appears that each coat gets a little easier to apply. My plan now is to paint the bottom 5 or 6 times or at least until the paint is gone.
