Hi Guys,

I'm refurbishing a 2006 C310s this winter, which started as just cutting new floorboards, epoxying them, paiting them etc.

I decided to paint the transom too since some of the paint had flaked a little. I pulled all the items screwed into it intending to rebed them once done. This incudeds the floor brackets, motor bracket on the inside and the drain fitting and the brackets for the optional rear wheels on the outside, below the waterline.

I was shocked to find that these screws had ZERO selant on them...How can they build a boat with fittings screwed into the transom that will sit BELOW THE WATER line and not properly seal them?

As a result the transom is a little soft around these screws, thankfully it just appears to be a few plys deep so far. There is also some delamination of the PVC on the outside of the transom. I think if I reglue the PVC and bed all the fasteners it shouldn't get any worse since the transom will now be sealed.

My main point is what the heck were they thinking? If they saved a few dollars here what other corners did they cut?

I know when I buy a new one that I'll certianlly pull every screw outta the transom and properly seal them!

Is there anything I should look at while I've got the thing at home?

My West Marine (Zodiac) had the same issue and it is pretty rotted at the transom. It doesn't leak water but the boat is pretty much garbage since you are unable to replace the transom on these. They are known as "Throwaway" dinghies at our local shop up here.... that sells them.
