Last year i asked my boat yard to replace our ZINCS,
Looking at them today out of the water they look really poor.
Do Zincs deteriorate that fast? or is my boat yard pulling a fast one??

I go thru zincs twice per year in a brackish canal

Netter the anodes than the drives. You may have a lot galvanic activity where you slip the boat.

just saw that you have v drives...

Yes, they do deteriorate fast. The yard is not pulling a fast one on you.

Thanks for that.......and the other responses.

I could see that wear rate. I used to replace ours every 6 months, but it does depend on galvanic activity.

I to am in brackish water and in year round. I switched to the larger heavy Zinc this year, I don't know if it will help me anymore than the lighter Zinc but as Madi said earlier, better the zinc than the shafts, tabs, or rudders

Nobody added this comment, so I will...............rapid depletion of hull, tab, & outdrive zincs anodes could very easily be caused by stray current in the water near your boat in your marina. The cause might be something as simple as the wiring reversed on a plug in lamp on a neighbor's sailboat.

Zinc andodes are best for salt water, magnesium for fresh, and aluminum for brackish water.

Carter I tried the aluminum andodes last time out. They were 50% gone after 6 months. I had better hope for them.
Frank is right, most of my zinc wear came from the boat next to me, that boat is now gone. She hadn't been used in over 6 years.

There is a sponsor here on CSR, they have supplied my zinc and the aluminum andodes since I bought my boat. They are a great crew and have very fast shipping.

Although, my boat spends 90% of the time in brackish water, I use Zincs since the other 10% is in salt water. I'm fully prepared to learn a better solution from a chemist out there
