Wanted to find out if it was necessary to inspect and replace the zinc plugs on my cummins in a fresh water application??

As a seasonal boater you should do it at least once a year, either in spring or fall. I do it in spring right before new season starts.

Is it hard to get the zincs out??? I dont want them breaker on me.
Do you flush out at the same time??

The biggest challenge is to have good access to the stbd side on heat exchanger and port side to lower one on aftercooler. The rest are easy. BTW, be prepared for water to rush out from the lower plug on the aftercooler, as soon as you take the zinc out.

I don't see a connection between flushing the engines and changing the zincs. So, no I don't flush mine.

Alex, I was just told by my local Cummins guy that I should check them monthly, including the generator. Frank also said recently to change the generator zinc monthly if it's a Westerbeke.

Russ, what's the main idea for a monthly check up, to make sure that the anodes don't unscrew? Or is there something else that I'm not aware of? I'm pretty sure that 95% of the anode will be remaining.

My genny is Onan, so I think that the 30day rule from Westerbeke doesn't apply to me.
