Zinc anode wear rate on Kohler 5ecd ?

Does anyone have experience with the wear rate on one of these?

My boat is trailered and used in fresh water only. I do put around 150 hours a season on the generator but wonder if the anode would be ready for replacement given it's not sitting in water at a dock year round.

I replaced mine just this year after getting the boat used at the end of last season. It's an '03 and shows about 130 hours indicated. Just guessing I would say the anode I had in there was original because it still had the white paint all over the brass bolt.

It was worn pretty good - I'd say down about 60%. I'm in brackish water. I think unless you drain it it could still be "wet" all the time if there's water in the exchanger.

I did lear they only make one type of anode - zinc, for the generator. Hope this helps.

The manual says replace every three months. I think that is when it sits in water all the time though. Not sure how fast they wear outside of the 3 month period.

That's what has me curious, from what I understand zinc won't react in fresh water, so would it ever need replacing in my situation ?

I would say pull it and check it. If it's not erroding, then you are ok.

Our anode's show almost ZERO wear here on our lake. The dealer says our water is neither acidic nor too much base. Being fresh water lake I guess is easiest on anodes. My '05 has original ones and they look freakin new, unreal. Knock on wood that is
