Update: The newest one has been sold. Still have 1 w/ a few marks on the exterior and about 30 hours usage.

I have 1 electric shift solenoids for the HSW series transmissions. They are 12 VDC version. I replaced the entire pump assembly with the new style shift valve, so I will not need these.

Purchased from Transmission Marine in Ft Lauderdale for my HSW-800 transmission. I paid about $290. I have the invoice.

Purchased January 2019, and has some tooling marks on it from being removed, but otherwise in great shape. Estimate 30 hours of use. asking $175 or best offer.

The one on the right is still for sale.

Dave, I don’t know anything about this repair so instead of doing the research I’ll just rely on you - are these solenoids something that make sense to have in the parts bin as a spare? I might take them off your hands if it’s something that could sideline me for a weekend

I'd say if one was building a very comprehensive spares kit, having a spare drive solenoid is a good idea especially if you can get a good used serviceable one at a discount. One of those things that if you have a spare you will never need it but might even be in a position to help someone who does. I need to see if they will work on 506, if so I can see grabbing one myself.

I think it depends on where you boat. If you outside the inlet/far from home, it might make sense to keep one. Even if not, these are a better price than new.

Let me know.

Not sure if you are 12V or 24V. But I also have 2 that came off a pump I purchased for spare parts. I believe they are 24V, but are of unknown service history.

We cross Lake Ontario all the time to go to Canada and getting one over there might be a nightmare.

what’s the symptom of a failure and what’s the R&R process? PM me if you don’t want to clog up this thread

No worries.

Symptom - could be wont shift into gear or fall out of gear on plane. Could also be a lose electrical connection.

R&R is easy. There is a Hex cap screw that holds down a wishbone clamp. Remove the cap screw and the wishbone falls away out of the slot and the valve slides out. Its sealed only with the attached o-ring. Its a 5 minute job.

Im'12 Volts on the Carver. I would assume the solenoids are the same on all of the ZFs but need to verify that, I have never had to deal with them before.

In that era boat I would expect this style of solenoid. At some point they moved to a new pump style, and the solenoids changed to a new style as well. The new and old are not campatible, and the electrical connection is completely different.

The "old" style (what I have here) use a AMP Transmission style connector. The new ones used a Bosch fuel injector connector.

I’ll take the one for $200. Seems like a good thing to have on board. Falling out of gear is no good lol

I’ll send you PayPal a bit later

other one is yours @Carpediem44DB

I am pretty sure that I have a different connector, a square one that has a screw securing it. May even be a Volvo harness part. I have a lot to learn about this boat still. I intend to adapt my wireless remote control to it as one of my first priorities so I can maneuver the vessel from the boarding platform. Since it is on the transom at water level and behind the aft cabin there is no way to have eye contact with crew (mostly my nervous wife). I may get down there today and have a look at the connector to verify.

So turns out I’m a dummy and should have checked our trans before grabbing one of these, we apparently have a newer style solenoid.

If anyone still needs one PM me. I’ll start another thread too
