I have a 2008 44 Sundancer with Zeus Pods. Last year, the Starboard trim tab cylinder failed and reluctant to replace both, I opted for only the failed one. (if it ain't broke, don't fix it!). As luck would have it, the Port failed over the 4th of July weekend. The part it not readily available, so my question is, can you bypass the cylinder hydraulic lines and give up functionality of the port cylinder/trim control so the boat can be used until the part is available? I'm assuming the pressure sensor could be a challenge to bypass? Currently, steering available just no joy stick, and port engine restricted to idle speed only. Is it safe to continue to use?

You're saying your actuator failed in the fully retracted position?

I "think" the actuator o-ring failed in the extended position. I only suspect this because the exact same problem happened on the starboard engine last year. I also eliminated the possibility of a cooler issue by shutting the thru-hull discharge line for the cooler, started the engine and still had same quantity of sheen on the water outside the boat. My belief is the only possible source is the ram seal.

I do not believe you can safely bypass the actuator. The trim tab actuator shares the same reservoir with the steering actuator. I'm pretty sure the system is expecting input from all sensors when running and if anything is out of bounds it will alarm and go into guardian mode.
Lastly, i think if you try to disconnect the hydraulic hoses to the trim tab actuator, it will extend.

I don't think this is an advisable course of action.
